Chapter 9

Riley's POV:I felt my eyes slightly open letting the sun escape my hands to my eyes. What time was it?

I checked my phone under the pillow and read: 5:52

Ugh. What time are we going anyways. I looked over to see Maya obviously still sleeping.

I couldn't get the thought of going swimming with Lucas. He already knew how I felt about him which made today even worse.

About an hour and a half of watching the news, I got hungry. Maya still sleeping, I went downstairs to the bakery to get Maya and I crossiants. I knew she would eat the minute her eyes opened. There were tons of people already in line, I felt like leaving.

But I had to eat.

After about 10 minutes of waiting in line, I felt someone tap my shoulder behind me. I looked back.

It was Lucas.

"Hey Riles." He said with a greeting smile.

"Hey..."

I knew that he knew I still had feelings for him. How was I going to talk normal to him now?

"Look, last night was pretty confusing, but I don't see our relationship any different. I still see you the same."

What exactly did he mean by "relationship?"

"Oh... Okay." I said trying to avoid awkwardness.

After we both got our food, I headed back to our room but Lucas interrupted me.

"Can we just sit down and talk for a bit." He hopefully questioned me as I turned around.

"Sure." I replied. I wasn't going to say no of course.

We talked about how much fun we had back then with the crew. I felt like we were going back in time for moments thinking about it.

After what felt like hours of talking I checked my phone.

10:30!!!

Maya must be up wondering where I am.

"Sorry Lucas, I've gotta go check on Maya. But I'll see you in like 2 hours." I said.

He giggled and waved bye as I walked away.

I came back to the room surprised to see Maya completely awake.

Usually she's awake, but she doesn't get out of bed this fast.

She seemed tired yet upset. Either or.

"Good morning Peaches." I said. She looked at me and gave a forced smile without saying anything.

"Are you okay?" I asked. She was usually never like this.

"Yeah. Just asking, did you see anyone like Lucas downstairs?"

"Nope." I replied. I didn't want her to know that Lucas and I talked. It would seem like I stole those moments from her with Lucas. Especially since she liked him also."

She looked back at me but never said a word.

Did I do something wrong?

Maya's POV:

I woke up, noticing that Riley wasn't in the room. I was obviously curious so I went downstairs to see where she was.

I went to the café not just because I wanted to find Riley, but because I was hungry. But then... I avoided it. I could see Riley and Lucas talking at a table from the corner of my eye so easily. I'm pretty pissed off. I mean... I did the exact same thing with Lucas the day before, and I feel like shes taking my chances with Lucas away.

She said she didn't like him. But I don't believe her.

When she came back, I ignored her as much as possible. I'm still upset.

*2 hours later

"Maya we gotta get ready, it's almost time to go snorkeling." I listened and obeyed, but didn't say anything back.

I don't know if she assumes I'm upset, cause to be honest, I want her to know what she did was wrong.

After a couple of hours, we left with my swimsuit, clothes, sunscreen, and my favorite flip-flops.

We met with Lucas and Farkle later on. I was the first to go in, and I wanted to be in the corner. To my surprise, Lucas came in second sitting right next to me as our hands accidently touched.

I moved my hands right away in embarrassment. I was nervous. Than Riley came third along with Farkle.

For about most of the drive, everyone was silent. Only my mom and aunt were talking.

Without noticing, I was looking at Lucas's jawline. I mean DAMN. Sorry I'm stupid. lol

Anyways, he noticed and our eyes met. We looked at each other for barely a couple seconds but it felt like forever. My heart was racing, thinking about what he thought. I moved into the corner even more to avoid awkward conversation with Lucas.

*30 minutes later*

We finally got there. I ignored Riley's glances at me. Let's see how this day goes.
