Chapter 16

Lucas's POV:

"Do you still want to go say hi?..." I didn't really know what else to say.

"I don't know Lucas. I think we should just let her be."

"Let's just... Go in the water or something"

"Again?! We just went in."

"Oh. Well let's go in again." I mean what else was I supposed to do. Just sit there and watch her go on a date with the guy she barely knew?

We went in the water, but I couldn't help looking back at the shore. What was Maya even doing with him?

"Something bothering you?" Farkle said with a smile on his face.

"What do you think?"

"Just let her be..."

"Actually no I won't." I replied. I was sick of it. Really? Farkle telling me to let her be. Her being with Scott made no sense so I wasn't going to just let it go. I walked out of the water, heading towards Maya and Scott. Seeing Farkle from the corner of my eye, chasing me, immediately regretting bringing me here. As I got closer, Maya finally noticed me. And she didn't seem to know what to do.

"Hey Maya," I said with a sarcastic smile on my face.

"Oh uh hey Lucas." There was an awkward pause, and Scott being in the middle of this seemed very confused.

"Oh, Scott this is Lucas, Lucas this is Scott. If you don't remember you guys met when we went snorkeling."

"Yeah. I remember. Thought we would only see him that day and never have to speak to him. Someone obviously didn't get it huh Maya?" I said obviously upset.

"I'll let you guys be." Scott replied walking away. I noticed Riley from the corner of my eye walking to the shore probably getting ice cream. I knew what was about to happen and I really didn't want Riley to get involved.

"What the hells your problem?" Maya said. I guess she got more upset than I thought she would.

"What else was I supposed to do? You barely know the guy."

"Wouldn't you think that's why I hung out with him. To get to know him?"

"Maya I was just-"

"You were trying to ruin Hawaii for me. I get it, we have history. I'm trying to meet new people. Yeah to be honest I'm not over you. But I'm not sure what to do when you held hands with Riley at the movie theater and then the next day, get mad because I was trying to make friends. So just-"

I didn't know what to say back. It was so overwhelming. I know that what I did was probably wrong. I interrupted, getting closer to her and gently grabbing her face. Then it just happened... We kissed.

Both of us, shocked from what had just happened, just stepped back and looked at each other.

"I-I have to go back and find Scott." Maya said. I guess she's avoiding me now. And I guess what I did was a mistake. She said she wasn't over me. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it, but did Maya?

In an instant, I knew that it wasn't just the kiss, and Farkle and I could just walk away. There was more to it. Then I remembered... Riley. I didn't see her anywhere, but that doesn't mean she didn't see it. I felt someone tap my shoulder from behind, supposing it was Farkle, but I saw red hair, and knew it wasn't him. Farkle was standing by our towels. It was Amber.

Maya's POV:

I was really upset. I mean Lucas didn't have to do that. But then the kiss happened. And I don't know how I feel now. I was on a date with Scott and I ended up kissing Lucas which is probably the worst thing to happen on a date.

I left to look for Scott but couldn't find him. I looked at the food court, back at the beach, and I finally found him at the shore... With Riley. They were eating ice cream just talking.

"So yeah Pokémon GO is-"

"Hey guys." I interrupted. Good thing I did because the first conversation with someone should not be about Pokémon.

"Oh hey Maya. Is everything okay?" Scott asked.

"Yeah it's fine. Seems like you're okay since you found someone to talk to."

"Wait what happened?" Riley asked. Oh no.

"It's not a big deal." I didn't want her to know I kissed Lucas...

"If it isn't then tell me." Riley said.

I wanted this conversation to end and thankfully it did but in the wrong way. I looked back and saw Lucas, Farkle, and that Amber chick. I looked back at Riley, seeing as she was pretty upset.
