It was Thursday, and I'd already had a REALLY long week. I was ready for the weekend, until Professor Callaghan assigned us partners for a new robotics project.

I would've been okay with doing it on my own. Personally, I would've preferred it. No head-butting over creative control, you get to work on it whenever you want instead of fitting the project into someone else's schedule. But I got a partner anyway. I didn't recognize the name at first, and then I realized it was that guy they call "Wasabi."

Professor Callahan dismissed us from class and the boy came over to me. It's only now that I realize exactly how tall he is. He must be at least 6'2", and his strong build makes me look and feel small. Well at least he's cute. I think. It could be worse.

"Hi, I'm (y/n)." I say, extending my hand.

"Wasabi," he shakes my hand with a smirk. "It's nice to meet you (y/n)."

"There's no chance that you're free to start this project right now?" I ask.

"Sure. That was my last class, I've got time." Wasabi nudges my shoulder. "Hey, we should go to my lab. You can meet the gang."

"Okay." I smile at him.

About ten minutes later we enter the lab, a giant room with science and nerds everywhere. 24/7. It's a tech kid's paradise.

"Over here is GoGo's-"

"Look out!" a girl on an incredibly fast bike speeds past us. A blur of yellow and purple whirls just a foot away.

Wasabi and I let out a scream as we jump back, and we cling to each other.

The bike stops suddenly and in one motion, she hops off.

"Hey," the girl removes her helmet and gives me a small smile. "I'm GoGo. You're in my robotics class right?"

"Yeah I am. My names (y/n)." I respond.

"Unfortunately for her, she got stuck with me." Wasabi says from behind me.

"Pro tip:" GoGo starts. "Don't bother cleaning anything. He works best in an 'orderly mess' situation." Wasabi eyes go wide.

"No. No please don't do that. I'm begging you not to." GoGo laughs.

"Sorry pal, I had to. Seriously though, he's good. Well, thorough at the least. I've got to go meet up with my project partner." She jabs her thumb in the general direction of a taller boy with a SFIT hat coming towards us. "At least you didn't get stuck with this dork."

"Hey!" The boy interrupts. "My last project definitely blew you away."

"Fair enough." GoGo smirks.

"Hi, I'm Tadashi." He extends his hand to greet me.

"(Y/n)." I shake his hand and smile up at him.

"Well we should uh... Go do our project, right?" Wasabi says, closer to me now. I pull my eyes from the other boy.

"Uh, yeah I guess."

Wasabi grabs my hand as we weave in and out of the students at work. I stop at his station letting go of his hand.

"I thought I was 'going to meet the gang?'" He pauses, looking for his words.

"I know but... We should get started."

"Okay." I answer skeptically.

"Here, I've got this design but there's something wrong. I can't figure out what, so I thought you could take a look at it." He hands me a paper with multiple detailed sketches from different angles, each precisely measured and drawn to scale.

"Wow," I laugh. "GoGo was right, you are a mess." When I look up at him he smiles a bit.

"I come prepared." For awhile I look through the design. Making mental notes as I critique it. A minute or two passes before I speak.

"Very well thought out, I applaud you. However I think the power switch should be over here and then we can put a clear cover over it for protection. Then if we cut some metal in shop, probably iron, we'd have a more secure frame structure. Less likely to brake. It'd be a bit harder to move around, but we can fix that easily with wheels and/or some sort of magnetic suspension. Losing resistance means the kinetic energy would keep it moving."

"Okay." Wasabi sounds dazed. I lift my head to realize he hasn't been looking at the paper at all, but instead right at me, hanging onto my words.

"What? You didn't think I was smart?" I say sarcastically.

"No I know you are." He tells me. "You're very cute when you're smart."

"I'm always smart." I snicker.

"I know." A grin forms on his face.

"Are you flirting with me?"

"Very well, I'd like to think."

"If that's a challenge I accept."

"Oh really?" He smirks at me slyly and lifts his eyebrow.

"Yes." I pause to get closer with him, which really only demonstrates our height difference. "And I know you dragged me away from Tadashi because you thought I'd like him." With that he gets nervous, as he tries to find a way to deny it and look cool.

Standing on my toes, I kiss his cheek.

"You win, (y/n)."
