I pull my (favorite car) up to the curb in front of the Lucky Cat Cafe just before 11:00 am, five minutes early. I put it in park and unbuckle my seatbelt, but by the time I look back Tadashi is already out of the cafe and headed to the car. He hops in the passenger seat with a smile.
"Hey, (Y/N)!" He greets in his deep voice.
"Hey!" I grin back at him, "you're awfully chipper, I thought I would have to drag you to your appointment."
"I'm pretty sure you'll have to drag me back. It's only right for me to cooperate on the way there.""How kind of you." I say with a hint of sarcasm and he laughs. I pull my car back onto the street.

We walk into the waiting area and I sit down as Tadashi checks in. When he walks over to sit with me I can see he's fidgeting with the hem of his shirt- a nervous habit of his- but he smiles at me anyway. I hold his hand as he takes a seat. It sets butterflies off in my stomach but I hope it calms him.
"You'll be fine," I assure him.
"I know that," Tadashi tells me, "but I also know Hiro told you to get a video of me after I get my wisdom teeth pulled."
I laugh, "well of course he did, that doesn't mean I'll do it!" I squeeze his hand. "You need to have some faith in me."
"I'm just afraid I'll say something stupid, you know, when I'm all drugged up."
"Why? You have a lot of secrets?" I ask it as a joke, but when he goes stiff I know I hit a soft spot. I give him an understanding smile. "Well, I promise not to tell." Tadashi smiles back, but he's just as stiff as before.
As the minutes pass by, I do my best to make light conversation. Soon we're joking around like usual. Our laughing earns us glares from other patients, but we don't mind.
A nurse comes through the door calling in Tadashi. I stand up with him. "Last hug," I say wrapping my arms around his neck. Without hesitation his wrap around my waist.
"You'll be just fine," I tell him softly, and I can feel him smile into my shoulder.
"Thank you, (Y/N)."
The nurse holds the door open for Tadashi to walk through then turns to me. "This procedure can take a while. If you'd like, you can leave the office and we can give you a call when he's ready."
"Thank you, but I'd rather stay here." He smiles at me then leaves to show Tadashi to the operating room.

I stare blankly at the magazine I picked up so I could pretend I was doing something. My thoughts were really on Tadashi. I kept wishing I could've gone with him just to make sure. My brain knew he'd be just fine but my thoughts were always distracted by worry.
The same nurse stands in the doorway trying to get my attention. "Ma'am?" I put down the magazine and look up at him.
"He's ready to see you."
I couldn't help but giggle when I walked into the room to see Tadashi in a state of drowsy excitement. The nurse closed the door behind me leaving the two of us alone. I give him a big smile.
"Hey Tadashi! How are you feeling?"
His answer is slow and quiet. "I'm- I'm a lot better now that you're here." He makes sloppy finger guns at me and I can't help but laugh.
"Even after getting teeth pulled you're sweet."
Tadashi's eyes go cartoonishly wide, as if he's just had a stroke of genius "not as sweet as you!" He answers proudly, his face beaming. I laugh again.
I brush his hair from his forehead lightly and grab his hand. "Well I'm glad you're doing okay."
"You're so nice and-and you're pretty! No wonder I'm in love with you." Everything seems to freeze for me, but the boy in front of me continues as if nothing happened. Suddenly the door opens and the doctor moves in the room.
"We just need a quick check on his systems and then he should be free to go."
I force myself to look at the doctor and say something, even if it sounds empty. "Great. Thank you."
My thoughts are running wild. I've known for a while now that I loved him, but I've been too scared to tell him that. And he liked some mystery girl that none of our friends knew who she was. Could that be me? Was that the secret Tadashi had? No, he was just high. I couldn't take anything he said to heart.
But it bothered me for the next week. I texted him a lot to ask how he was, or stopped by to take care of him when Aunt Cass had to work. He was clearly in pain, but definitely didn't remember what he said to me. When the week was over he felt just fine, but I kept coming around out of habit. We would sit on the couch on the living room and talk or watch TV while I occasionally fetched him meds, water, or snacks.
By Saturday he was completely off the pain meds and back to his perceptive self.
"(Y/N) is something wrong?"
"What?"
"You seem distracted, are you okay?"
"I'm fine just-" I stop. Why was it so hard for me to tell him? He probably didn't mean it anyways.
"When you came out of the operation you told me... you were in love with me."
My heart breaks when Tadashi turns his head away looking hurt.
"Is it true?"
He still won't look at me. "I don't want things to be weird-"
"Because I'm in love with you." I can't keep it in anymore. He looks into my eyes an I can't breathe. It feels like forever until a smile dances on his lips.
"Really?"
"Really."
He brings his hand to my face, leaning against the couch and playing with my hair.
"Why didn't you tell me what I said before?"
"I didn't want to hurt you... if I got the chance to do this." I look down at his lips, knowing this is what I want. I come closer until I'm leaning against him, giving him a long kiss. Then another. We part for just a moment, only inches between us. He smirks at me. "It would have been worth it." I giggle as he kisses me back, both of us unable to resist our grins.
