A/N Technically a Fred X Reader, but really it's more of a Team X Reader.

"I'm just saying," Honey Lemon continued, her hands waving around in the air. "I think you two would be cute together." Normally, I'd be a bit annoyed by this. But her smile is so innocent and sweet. I can't be mad at Honey Lemon.

"I know you mean well, Honey, but I think we're just friends." I say, glancing over at Fred.

"Yeah, I think I see us as a couple...of CRIME FIGHTERS!" Fred and I lean over to high five each other.

"Yep, you two sure are tough." GoGo smiles, obviously teasing us.

"What can I say?" I shrug, "it's a gift." Fred and GoGo snicker, while Honey Lemon obviously mouths to the rest of the group 'come on! (Y/n) and Fred would be so cute!' I pretend not to notice, though.

On the next of our regular Saturday meetings at the Lucky Cat Cafe, I wait patiently with Hiro for the others to arrive. I get up to greet all of them as they walk through the door. Until Fred is the only one left.

I run to the entrance after seeing him through the window. I walk on my toes so that I can drape my arm across his shoulders at a weird angle.

"What's up Freddie? I haven't seen you all week!" He does a but of a nervous laugh.

"Not much. Well, I guess a bunch of stuff, but nothing new. You know, just Fred being Fred. Some sign spinning, a lot of comic book reading. I don't really do much else, huh?" He rambles.

"That's not true." I slide my arm off of his shoulders as we sit down next to each other at the round table.

"Well, I don't do anything as interesting as you geniuses." He responds, a bit embarrassed. Which is odd, because I don't think I've ever seen him embarrassed.

"Again, not true." But I decide to leave the conversation at that. He's clearly a bit uncomfortable.

All of us spend the next couple hours chatting in the café. Every time Fred speaks he doesn't seem like himself. He rambles then gets really quiet towards the end. By the time we all decide to leave, he barely speaks anymore.

I leap up to wrap my arms around his neck. He hugs me tighter than usual, his skinny arms around my waist. I feel his head resting on my shoulder. His face is buried in my hair just like mine is in his.

"I'll see you later." He whispers, almost sadly.

"You better."

I glance at the clock, seeing that it's a bit past eight on this fantastic Saturday night with my best friends. Wasabi, GoGo, Honey Lemon, Hiro, Fred, and I sit around a table in the Lucky Cat Cafe. What used to be a plate of pastries sits in the center of the stylishly decorated table, with only one eclair left.

Currently, the gang was debating over who would get the last one. The only ones not participating in the argument are Fred and me. I won't lie it freaked me out a little bit how quiet Fred has been lately. He always had some goofy thing to say that would make me laugh, but for almost a month now it's been like he's giving us the silent treatment. We've been texting pretty normally, but I miss hearing his voice like I used to.

I pull myself out of thought to see GoGo smugly taking a bite of the eclair. I smile, did I ever doubt she'd get her way? I daze off again. I don't mean to, but I do. It's been happening more and more lately. I only come back when Hiro nudges his elbow to my arm.

"Hello? Earth to (y/n)? I'm not detecting any signs of intelligent life forms anywhere."

"Very funny." I said, leaning against Wasabi's arm to put my legs across Hiro's lap. He pushes my legs, I put them back on. Then again. This time he lets my legs stay. I smile with victory and look over at Fred, giving him a thumbs up. He smiles back and looks like he's about to say something, then stops himself.

I frown and take out my phone.

Hey Fred, I need to talk to you later.

Am I in trouble?

No, of course you aren't.

Are you in trouble?

"Texting AND putting your feet on me? How rude." Hiro says.

"Yeah, who are you even texting?" GoGo adds.

"Nobody."

"You're lying, who?" Hiro shakes my legs by bouncing his up and down, but I don't answer.

"Wasabi, look at her phone."

"What? No! That's an invasion of privacy." I bend my head to look at him.

"Thank you, Wasabi."

"What if it's her boyfriend?!" Honey joins in.

"I don't have a boyfriend."

"Not that we know about." I straighten up and sit in my own chair, then shut my phone off.

"Fine. The phone is away. My feet are off. But I do have to go. Fred?"

"Is he walking you home?" Hiro asks.

"I am walking him home. I'm a tough girl, I tie my own sneakers and everything." GoGo raises her hand to high five me.

Fred looks over at me "alright, let's go." I smile and swing my arm around his shoulder.
