She sits alone at the High School Dance
She wanted to dance but never got her chance
Quiet, sad, and so very alone
She cries as a slow song takes on her somber tone
She blushes as she sees the one that makes her smile so
But, it doesn't matter. They'll never even know..
Litter crowds the floor
Her heart remains a closed door
She wants to fall in love
But all it is is push and shove
She writes endless poems and words
That no one has ever even heard
These thoughts rest in her head
Having been so unchanged, they fill her with dread
But, it's the small things these days that keep her going
Sometimes dreaming is better than knowing.
But tonight, she's just another face in a crowd
No one with whom to dance, everyone's drunk and the music's too loud
A mind so sad, a heart so broken, tears run free
"How I wish somebody might dance with me..."
