Fifteen

(Name) woke up to a harsh light. She heard muffled noises around her, but she couldn't make out anything. She blinked multiple times, adjusting her eyes to the light.

"Look, she's up ! Call the doctor." she heard someone say.

She realized she was in a hospital, and beside her holding her hand was none other than Uzumaki Naruto. She looked at him with confusion on her face as the doctor did some tests. She was unable to find words, her mind was still hazy and her throat was dry.

The doctor nodded at Naruto left the room with another man following him.

(Name) sat up and Naruto helped her. "How long was I out ?" she asked. Her voice came out hoarse and in a whisper. She reached for a glass of water beside the bed and gulped it down in one go.

Naruto frowned. "Three days, I think." he said.

"Where's my mother ? Where are my parents ? Where is Sasuke ?" she asked, frowning slightly.

Naruto looked uncomfortable at that. He didn't know how to break it to her. She seemed to have forgotten what had happened. But she remembered Naruto, so that couldn't really be possible.

(Name) took in Naruto's discomfort and her eyes widened. "Oh, my God." she said, realizing the whole situation.

Naruto nervously gulped as he avoided her gaze and looked down at his hands folded on his lap.

"My parents.. Where are they ?" she demaded, but her voice cracked.

Naruto met her gaze for a brief second and looked back down. "They.. They were.." Naruto struggled to find the right words, but (Name) had gotten the hint.

He heard inhale sharply and then silently sob, and bury her head in her hands. He reached out and rubbed her back. That was all he could do after all. It broke his heart to see her that way. In a way, he was one of the reasons behind it. Had he paid more attention to Sasuke, (Name) wouldn't have had to go through what she was.

She cried for what seemed like an eternity to Naruto, making him feel worse, but it was actually only minutes. She hiccupped and collected herself. She knew it was weird how they had suddenly left. The last thing she remembered was her foot being cuffed to a bed and Sasuke's weird behavior.

"Where is Sasuke ?" she asked.

"He got away." said Itachi, walking into the room. His Akatsuki cape was got and he wore a dark shirt and a dark washed jeans, with a pair of glasses framing his face. Ha had left the room with the doctor earlier, who said that the effect of whatever drug Sasuke had given (Name) was wearing out but she might still feel sleepy, and that she would be discharged in two days.

(Name) raised her eyebrows at him.

"I am Uchiha Itachi, Sasuke's elder brother." he said as he neared her bed.

She frowned at that. "But Sasuke said--"

"Yes. I know he said he was an only child. My brother lied about a lot of things, you see. I was supposed to have died as well the night our parents died - or, were murdered." explained Itachi.

"What are you talking about ?" asked (Name), narrowing her eyes at Itachi. She knew Sasuke had lied about his family, but se had never guessed that he also had a brother.

Itachi motioned at Naruto, who left his seat near the bed and sat on a couch near the wall. Itachi sat in his seat and faced (Name).

"My brother has....mental issues. He had murdered our parents when he was only a child, and news spread that I also died in an accident. I went into hiding, and monitored my brother for years. Just when we thought he was better, this happened. We should have seem this coming. I'm sorry for your loss." said Itachi, bowing his head.

(Name) sniffed and nodded, although she did not understand the situation well. She looked at Naruto, who gave her a soft smile, meaning that he would explain it to her later and as many times as she needed to understand it.

"You mean that possibly Sasuke is behind my parents' death ?" Her voice cracked towards the end of her sentence and she had trouble swallowing, but she took a deep breath.

"Not possibly. He is the one behind all of this. He is crazy, (Name). He had kidnapped you and was planning to give you some sick drug he made by which he could keep you forever with him even though you weren't alive." Naruto inhaled deeply as he had said this in one breath.

(Name) turned to Itachi in shock. He nodded in confirmation.

"But, why would he do that ?" she asked.

Itachi looked down and took off his glasses. His eyes looked really tired and made him appear older than he probably was. He smiled sadly.

"Maybe we went wrong somewhere. Our parents, I, we gave him all he wanted, everything he asked for. He was so pampered in the house. But, I guess that just wasn't enough. Maybe that was not what he wanted. He only wanted to spend time with his family, which was the one thing he couldn't get. By the time we realized he wasn't sane anymore, it was too late." said Itachi. He looked up and met her gaze.

"He has our parents' bodies 'preserved' with him, just so he could keep them with him forever. And that's what he was planning to do to you too." said Itachi, with a hint of distaste and hurt in his voice, but his face remained indifferent.

(Name) took a deep breath and looked down at her hands. She only dated Sasuke because she had no reason to refuse him and he was one of the best guys, and what had that gotten her into ? Only later had she developed some feelings for him, which were now gone.

"I will cover all your losses, and we will continue searching for Sasuke." said Itachi, and left the room after nodding at (Name).

Naruto came back to his seat and took her hands in his. She let out a shaky breath.

"I'm- I feel so lost, Naruto. What did I do to deserve this ? If I knew this was how it would end, I would have never dated Sasuke. I don't even know what I am going to do after this. I don't know what I'll do without mom and dad."

Naruto wrapped his arms around her as she sobbed into his shoulder. He rubbed her back.

"Don't worry, (Name). I'm here for you." he said.
