Chapter 17

Samuel's POV

- Why won't you talk to me? - Asks Rose, pursuing me in the hallway. I walk faster, trying to ignore her voice. - Samuel, please! I just want to know if you're okay? - She continues. I stop, turning around to her, my emotions boiling. I take a deep breath, no one else is around, now I can't let loose.

- Since we broke up, I was diagnosed with depression, I gave up athletics, forfeit my sporting scholarship, fought alcoholism, tried to set myself right. I started running again, stopped drinking, started taking my medication again, and now my heart is failing. And somewhere between all of that, I got over what you did! - I shout, standing over Rose. I take a deep breath to calm myself, making sure I don't raise my heart rate too much.

- Sam, I didn't mean to hurt you like that. What I did was wrong...and I regret that all, but I just want to be able to see you smile, like you used to smile when we were happy together. - says Rose softly, her voice still sweet and alluring. I sigh, of course this would happen once I begin to love Caroline.

- Why are you here? - I ask, refusing to look at her and staring at the ground.

Rose places her finger on my chin, lifting my head up to look at her.

- I know you aren't well Sam, and I do still care about you, even if you don't care about me anymore, I want to be there when you wake up from your operation, that way I can know you'll always be okay... - she answers, her voice soft and sweet. I grab her hand, pulling it away from me.

When we touched, it wasn't there, the feeling was gone, now I know she can never hurt me again. I am truly Caroline's, and this unfortunate event proved that.

- There's other people in my life now, Rose. And I refuse to leave them so soon, so I'm always going to be okay. - I reply, turning my back on her and walking outside.

Caroline's POV

When Samuel didn't come to lunch I realized maybe something came up. I was jealous as hell but I trusted him. We are together but no one knows it. Maybe there is time to everyone know it? No. Not yet. I sighed and throw my left over to the trash.

I walked outside and see Rose and Caitlyn talking in hushed tones and they stopped when they see me.

Xander leaned closer and whispered to me.
- Be careful. Watch your back. - then he went to his class. Great. Watch my back? How?

I didn't see them anymore that day. I have seen Samuel ones and I touched his hand and squeeze it a little just to make sure he is all right and I am too.

When my classes was over I  went to his car so we can leave together I was first there but the two bitch was waiting for me or them with some other bitch too.

- Great. - I mumbled and crossed my arms so they can see they can't bitch with me. No. They can't. They are my family. What's mine they can't screw them over. What's gotten into me?

- Hey Caryy!? - Rose smiled at me.

- It's Caroline actually, but don't worry you will get used to it. - her eyes widen at me and tried to get to me but Caitlyn stopped her.

- You know after the party I was sure you didn't like Landon. But then you got all defensive with all two. So I am sure you fancy both of them. - then I laughed I just couldn't take it.

- Both? You are so blind!! - I tell her still laughing. - Fuck off both of you and leave me alone. - Then Rose came at me. She tried to grab my hair but she just couldn't so she slapped me. I lifted my hand I felt the cut on my lip. Seriously? I shake my head. Then I started to walk to her I am going to slap her hard, I am going to mess her perfect face up.

Everyone shouted "cat fight " around us.

Samuel's POV

I walk out from my final class, and see Rose slap Caroline in front of my car. "Oh shit!" I shout, dropping my bag and forgetting about my heart rate as I run over towards them.

Caroline storms towards Rose, ready to fight back. I shove my way through the ring of people.

- Caroline! - I shout as I burst through the crowd, stumbling between Caroline and Rose. I pant for breath, trying to hold myself steady through tunnel vision. That was way too much. The girls stop fighting and the crowd dissipates.

- Are you okay? - Asks Caroline, still staring down Rose.

- Samuel? - Questions Rose, placing a hand on my shoulder.

- Are you serious? - Shouts Caroline, walking towards Rose again. I turn and hold her back.

- Caroline stop! - I gasp, trying to calm my heart.

I feel burning and stabbing in my chest, I tell myself it's nothing, although I know it's more.

- Please, get in the car so we can go home. - I say softly, Caroline glares at me, and reluctantly goes and sits in the passenger seat. Xander was training today so he won't be home till later.

- What the hell was that? - I shout to Rose, my voice raised but weak.

- Your baby sister had another go at me, if she didn't want to get hit she should have shut up. - answers Rose. I shake my head.

- Dammit, can you just do me a favor and stay away from Caroline? - I question. Rose sighs.

- Okay, I'll do that but don't ask me to stop loving you. - she replies trying to step in close to me.

- I meant what I said. - I say sternly, stepping back, before getting into my car and speeding off.

- Are you okay? - I ask, placing one hand on Caroline's leg while I drive.

- Yeah... - she answers. Nothing else is said as I drive home, I pull up in the driveway, both Caroline and I hurrying inside. Caroline throws the front door open, tossing her bag to the side, I drop my own bag, quickly following Caroline.

I catch up to Caroline, quickly wrapping my arms around her from behind and stopping her.

- I'm sorry I wasn't there for you, and that I couldn't make you feel better at school. - I say softly, hugging her tightly.

- You're here now, if all it takes for us to be like this, is that we're alone I don't care. - replies Caroline, turning around and gazing into my eyes. I feel Caroline stand on her toes, we both lean closely together, kissing deeply, my hands on her waist, both her hands over my shoulders.
