Chapter 35

I Would

"Hi, Alex," I whispered quietly and looked Alex straight in the eyes. They were dark brown and reminded me a little about Zayn's dark and mysterious eyes, despite the fact that Alex's eyes were dull and couldn't focus on my face. He was drunk.

"I told you to... to call before you came," he said, spluttering a little on the first words and looking over his shoulder back into the apartment.

"Good to see you too...," I muttered back, crossing my arms over my chest and feeling every breath fill my lungs with air. Without being able to remove it, a small frown made its way to my face as I looked at my boyfriend in front of me. I had been gone for over a month and the first thing he said to me was 'I told you to call before you came', just like he wished I had never come.

"I'm sorry," he said, opening the door to step out into the stairwell where I was standing. He tried to push the door shut behind him, but it never reached the doorframe, leaving an inch of air between the two pieces of wood. Suddenly I realised that he wasn't wearing any shirt, making the sharp fluorescence light define his abs even more and made his tattoos look unclear and blurry. His favourite pair of sweatpants, a light great pair, hung low on his hips, showing the border of his underwear and the dark fabric made him look paler than he was.

I ripped my gaze off his body.

"I've missed you...," he whispered with his deep voice, sending pleasant chills down my spine as he leaned in and hugged me tight. His embrace removed the old and dirty stairwell from my sight, made it impossible to see anything but his bare skin and dark, messy hair. His scent filled my nostrils, reminding me of all the moments we'd shared during our relationship, made me miss him. I closed my eyes, tried to focus on my mission while my body was screaming at me to put my arms around his bare chest, telling me to be closer to him.

"Alex..." I put my hands against his chest, pushing him away from me and ignored the uncontrollable electrical shocks that rushed through my body. I shouldn't want him to be near me...

"You're looking good, babe. Different, but really good."

When my heart started swelling from the compliment, I mentally screamed at it to shut up and go hide in a corner somewhere.

It didn't.

"Stop, Alex..."

"I really liked your blueish things in your hair but your new hair colour is great. Not that it's very different from the old one, not at all, to be honest, but it looks very different with the blue highlights. And your clothes look really hot. I didn't even know that you could walk in high heels but it makes your legs look really good and..."
