An Iris in the Roses

No one expects an inquisition

                  

"You're both probably wondering why we are gathered together like this." Mr Ootori addressed us as we stood waiting for permission to take a seat.

"Yes Mr Ootori," I said confidently and at the same time Kyoya said, "Yes Father." Both our fathers and Kyoya's brothers nodded in approval at our responses.

"It concerns with what happened today with Benio Amakusa." Kyoya father told us.

"Did you act in self-defense Iris?" My father asked.

"Yes I did Father." I told him holding my head high even though I felt like I was about to faint.

"Kyoya?" His father asked him.

"Yes father, Iris-San was acting in self-defense." He answered.

"Well now that, that has been cleared up, Kyoya you may take a seat." His father announced to the two families present in the room. Kyoya sat down while I stood proudly with my head held high and my back straight.

"Now Iris are you ready to discuss your action from 16 days ago." My father asked standing in front of me. He was taller than average around 6 ft. tall and had a muscular build.

I swallowed before answering, "Yes, sir." As I gripped my hands tightly behind my back.

"State you reasons for firing at Agent Maximianus Ataullah Bertolini." He order standing how he had when he had trained me at the age of 3. He was nice when he wasn't suffering from PTSD, training, teaching or in the field.

"He was about to give away our position, it was the only way of stopping him before everyone in the squad was killed, Sir." I answered staring straight in front of me and keeping to the facts.

"Why did you believe he was about to give away your position?" My father asked.

"The confusion and hesitation in his eyes, his shaky sloppy movements and the increase in his perspiration, Sir" I answered feeling fainter by the second.

"Do you still believe the decision you made was for the best?" He asked raising and eyebrow.

I lifted my head and stared directly in his eyes. "Yes." I answered with no hesitation no emotion and I took my father's gaze full on I did not flatter. As he looked at me I looked at him and I think I just earned respect from him.

"Iris Alpha Tamiko Kazuko Lily Yamada it has been found that you acted in accordance to code, safety and honor of the Yamada Group. As head of the Group you are to be reinstated in your position as Squad 2's captain and you will begin training with your squad in 3 years' time." My father told me.

"Yes, Sir." I answered not questioning why it were to begin in three year's time.

"Iris you may take a seat," Mr Ootori said as my father sat back down.

"Thank you Mr Ootori," I thanked as I took my seat.

"How about some tea." Kyoya's mother said before calling for a maid as we waited Kyoya's brothers congratulated me on being reinstated before making their way over to talk with their father and mine. Our mother were talking and Fuyumi slipped away from them to talk to Kyoya and I.

"You two really aren't that social are you?" She stated as she observed how Kyoya and I were just sitting quietly next to each other.

"There isn't much point in talking when we can be over heard by everyone in the room Fuyumi and anyway their isn't anything to talk about." I told her as she sat down next me.

"You look like a mess." She stated looking me over.

"Yes well Benio Amakusa will do that to you." I told her sighing she just gave me a sympathetic smile and made her way over to our mothers after she had had a conversation wit Kyoya.
