“I win!” I exclaimed with delight. My two competitors frown and sighed in disappointment.

“Again?” Leslie sighed.

“She always wins; maybe it was a bad idea to teach her.” Adam shook his head in disbelief. I laughed as I pulled all the chips to my side of the table.

“What would we do for fun then? I just have good teachers, is all,” I replied with a huge grin on my face. I glance out the tiny window on the far side of the room to see snow falling. It looked like a winter wonderland. “Oh I almost forgot to give you guys your Christmas presents!” I rose from my seat and grabbed two neatly wrapped packages from my handbag.

“How did you know that you would see us?” Leslie asked sceptically.

“Oh please, I was always going to see you two again. Big Lemon just hasn’t let the whole weapons thing go and I doubt he ever will. It is just amazing that the police can’t seem to catch him. He is like a ghost, except I know he is real because I have been him.” I explained and I placed the brightly wrapped presents on the table. Adam cheerfully ripped into his and giggled with excitement when he discovered what it was.

“It’s a teddy bear, wearing a Santa’s hat. Look Webb!” Adam hugged the brown toy close to his chest. I sat down in my seat once again glad that Adam had liked his gift.

“I see it Adam, this was hardly necessary Iris. We are the ones that continuously try to kidnap you, why are you being nice to us?” Leslie looked a little confused.

“I like you guys. You are actually very sweet and don’t mean to be bad. It is just your line of work. There are no hard feelings between us,” I smiled. “Now open your present Leslie.” The logical thinker out of the two men analysed the box carefully. It was probably a habit. Leslie slowly opened the box to reveal a book.

“What is it?”

“It is a first edition of famous poets and their poems from the 1900’s till now. I know that you like to read about poetry and so I saw it and thought of you.” I shrugged. It was true that I had been walking through the bookstore the other day with my husband deciding what presents to get for all my friends and family.

“It’s great, thank-you. I’m sure it wasn’t cheap either though.” Leslie smiled his awkward smile. Leslie was one of those guys that had a hard time expressing their feelings but he had a sweet heart and was really a big softy.

“Can I give Iris our gift now?” Adam piped up. Leslie nodded. Adam disappeared to the far corner of the room to a dusty cupboard and retrieved a card and a plate. “Ta da! We made you a card and cake!” I couldn’t contain my smile as I opened the pink hand-made card that was covered in glitter. I felt like a mother given a mother’s day gift from her children. Tears glazed my eyes.

“What’s wrong Iris?” Leslie asked with concern present in his voice.

“I’m just so grateful, thank-you boys,” I sniffled. Adam and Leslie exchange smiles as we heard yelling from outside. “Now tie me up and disappear, I’ll see you soon. Merry Christmas boys.”

“Merry Christmas Iris.” The two of them whispered as they vanished through some secret door.

I shivered slightly as I snuggled into my winter coat. I was glad that I had brought it out with me shopping.
