Adelaide

It was now Thursday, which in my opinion is probably the worst day of the week. Scratch that, lately every day has been the worst day.The reason not being school, but because of the weight of the lie, I've been carrying. Luke has been making little appearances in my life now, smiling to me during class and in the halls, things that have a big impact on me emotionally.

Luke had dropped me off after we had finished, Cooly telling me he'd see me the next day then we parted ways. He walked into his home and I walked into mine. I didn't see him much the next day since I was practically ignoring him the whole time and let me tell you this, it's exhausting because he's everywhere.

"Are you gonna eat that?" Riley asks, tearing me out of my tangled thoughts.

"Yeah." But I'm not that hungry anymore, even though I only had a bowl of cheerios early that morning.

"So, did you hear?" Riley asks, leaning in like she doesn't want anyone to hear what she's about to tell me. Despite not liking gossip, I lean in any way to hear what she has to say.

"I heard from Jesse that Sam is going to ask me, out-in person." She says, keeping her voice low. For a second I thought she was going to say something about Luke, but it's only about this Sam guy. Basically, all that she's been talking about these last few days, even over text, she's non-stop talking about him. I can't really complain because I did that for a whole year, wanting to have a reason to talk about him, finding a way to sneak him into any conversation I could. Losing a friend isn't easy, especially when everything ended in a misunderstanding. Friends can break your heart, and I think everyone forgets that.

"Also there's a party." She says, less enthusiastically, picking at her nicely done nails. I look away from the potato salad on my plate and watch her carefully.

"A party?" I ask curiously.

"Yeah, a party, lame right? I can just imagine the 14-year-olds in their skimpy little dresses trying to impress a senior." I almost cringe, guys will definitely enjoy the fresh meat.

"That's disgusting," I grumble, my head shaking in distaste. For some strange reason, I'm curious about this party.

"I know." She agrees and just like that the warning bell rings and lunch is over. As the day goes by I wonder if I actually wanna consider going to the party. I wasn't invited and who knows if Luke is even going to be there. By the end of the day, I walk to Riley just as she reaches her locker.

"Is it weird that I wanna go to the party?" I ask, leaning against the locker beside hers. She keeps a straight face and shrugs. I thought she'd be more surprised that I wanna go to a party. An actual high school party.

"I kind of guessed, since you're still not over him..." She stuffs her books in the locker and closes it.

"I was never on him." I defend, trying to sound convincing but she knows me better.

"Sure." She says sarcastically.

I go home right away, semi-excited to tell Michael about a party that I might attend. When I get home I notice the cars in front of mine and the Hemmings residence. It's then that I realize that it's Thursday and that mom has book club. I think they're reading Romeo and Juliet, or 50 shades, I'm not sure. I unlock the door and close it behind me, not bothering to lock it since mom would be home soon.

I toss my bag on the ground in my bedroom and fall onto the soft comforter. My phone buzzes in my back pocket and I groan, shifting so I can grab it.
