Adelaide

Friday goes by all too slow, the day dragging on and on. By the way everyone trudges through the halls like zombies I assume they feel the same way. Only one thing keeping them awake and that was the party or a binge night of Netflix.

"Today was the longest—scratch that, this week was the longest." She complains, her heavy books weighing her down.

"Let's go, I don't wanna be here anymore." She adds, already walking to the main doors down the hall.

"Addie!-." A very breathless Luke shouts as he semi-jogs down the hall, waving his hand in the air to gain my attention. Everyone turns their attention to the six foot something guy hollering the name of his ex-best friend. Everyone just wants to know what's going on with the duo that was once inseparable.

"I'll be in the car." Riley bumps my elbow, a hint of mischief in her voice. She walks away and I turn my attention to Luke who is already beside me.

"Hey, Luke," I say, nervousness causing my voice to crack.

"I was wondering if you were going to Sam's party tonight." Oh, so it's Sam's party? I remember him, some guy on the swim team that always throws these parties when his foster parents are out of town.

"Who's asking?" I ask, attempting to sound calm but failing miserably.

"I am." He answers, his words sounding so sweet.

"Then, yes, I'm going." I decide on impulse.

"Good." He says and I wish I had something else to say but I don't. It's silent for a second before he speaks again.

"Well, let me have your number so we can meet up." He pulls out his iPhone and hands it to me, the new contact already open. I type my number in and double check if it's right before giving him his phone back. It looks like he got a new phone so I don't take offense to him not having my number.

"I'll see you later Addie." He flashes me a smile and touches my upper arm comfortingly before walking off.

"So, am I gonna hear the details?" Riley raising a brow at me as she and I sit in my bedroom. I spin in my desk chair and think about the scenario of him and I being at the party together. It'd be a new experience since we were never really the type to go to parties back then. She snaps at me and I plant my feet to stop spinning.

"Nothing happened," I say, spinning side to side before stopping before I vomited. She gives me this look like she knows I'm not telling the truth. "He asked for my number... It was nothing." I keep saying, hearing her let out an exaggerated groan.

"That's huge!" She says, sitting up from my bed. Her short legs taking her to my closet.

"No, he probably just wants to carpool for when he gets shit-faced and would you keep your voice down he can probably hear you," I mumble, glancing at his window. She shakes her head and I hear my phone vibrate on the bed table. I exchange looks with Riley before she lunges to my phone, itching to know who had sent me a text. She grabs my phone off the bed and unlocks it, showing me the screen with her mouth open agape.

"It's him." She says and I feel my heart skip a beat. I try to grab my phone but she pulls her arm away before I can get the chance to grab it.

"He wants you guys to hang out tonight. I think that's code word for fuck." She says, handing me my phone as she walks back to my closet.

"You must have forgotten Riley, he has a girlfriend, and... so do I?" She smirks and I wonder why. She must be up to something.

"He wants to fuck." She says, rummaging through my closet. Does she know what being a lesbian means? Ugh, my head hurts.

"He thinks I'm gay, remember?"

"That's no excuse, you're hot and you're 'into girls', Guys find many questionable things hot." She's so confident it radiates off her, like a glow that people can sense.

"Either way Addie, this thing that's going on... it has tension, sexual tension." I take a deep breath, there is no sexual tension, maybe just tension.

"What we have, it's platonic," I say. I'm reminded of Petez, I'm pretty sure there was tension, I wouldn't say sexual, though.
