A little while later

Marcy was huffing and puffing. Her heart was beating with exhaustion and excitement. "I've never snuck away like this before." She thought to herself as she and Kaid ran farther towards her home. "H-How much...l-longer?" She panted.

"It's not too much farther. We've reached the grasslands where you and Dex found mama and me." Kaid responded. "There! Over there is where the tall grass leads to your home."

Marcy followed his gaze towards the tall grass and grinned. She recognized the area and took off like a rocket.

"H-Hey! Slow down!"

The little Vulpix ignored him as she darted through the grass, searching for the old playground. It took her a little while of pushing through the greenery before she was able to spot the jungle gym rising up in the distance. "Kaid, I see the playground! Hurry up!"

She slowed down at the edge of the tall grass and peeked out into the clearing. There were some kids running around and playing with one another, but Marcy only spotted one or two familiar faces. "Did some of our remaining friends move out? I know that most of them were not taken by the R men."

"Y-You sure can...sprint for someone who is...still getting used to their new legs." Kaid gasped tiredly. "Can you not do that again?"

"Sorry. I got a little excited." Marcy giggled.

Kaid knelt down on the ground as he caught his breath. "Do you remember where your home is?"

"Uh-huh! Follow me!" Marcy chirped as she leapt out of the tall grass. Kaid immediately grabbed onto one of her tails and dragged her backwards to his side.

"What are you doing? This is human territory. We can't be seen just waltzing around this place. It's not safe."

Marcy frowned. "What do you mean by that? How's it not safe?"

"I mean if a human spots us we could get into trouble. As a human, how often did you see a wild Pokemon wondering the streets like they owned the place? And I'm not talking about a park Pidgey or a curious Pikachu. I mean Pokemon like us."

Marcy snickered as she recalled when she had first 'met' Dex. He had been curious around them at first.

"I'm being serious here." Kaid grumbled. "We have to be careful not to get caught. Besides, Aridan is already gonna give me an earful for wandering off once again."

Marcy nodded slowly as she looked back at the playground. None of the children or their parents had left. "Maybe no one will notice us if we stay quiet?"

"...Maybe. Keep your head down and move quickly." Kaid warned as he slipped past her. He moved hastily across the playground, making sure to stay out of the kids' and adults' line of sight, and dove behind one of the few empty benches. He looked back at Marcy and gestured for her to follow.

Marcy scanned the playground, making sure to time her movements according to the kids' placements on the playground. Once most of them had their backs turned towards her, she bolted for Kaid.

No one noticed her either as she nearly slide into the Cubone. A small giggle escaped her as she smiled at him. "You know, this is kind of fun. It feels like a game."

"A game? Uh...yeah. Sure, I guess if it makes sneaking back to her home easier, then..."

"Let's play!" Marcy chirped before the Cubone could finish his thought. "Come on. Smile a little. This will be fun!" She nudged Kaid forward before running off down the sidewalk; jumping into bushes every so often.

Kaid chased after her, mimicking some of her motions as they made their way down the road. Fortunately, the streets weren't as crowded as the playground was.
