Blow Me Away
I didn't know what to say, I was just too stunned. I opened my mouth to say something but no words would come out so I just closed it so I didn't look like an idiot with my mouth agape. Did I even hear him right? Me his girlfriend? Josh my best friend asking me to be his girlfriend? I feel as though I'm stuck in some twilight zone.
"Claire?" Josh's nervous voice broke me from my dream-like-state.
"Huh? What?"
"Heh, I said will you be my girlfriend?" He smirked.
"Josh, I-er...well that is...I...we...just...um-" I couldn't even hold a simple conversation with out being tongue tide. "We're just-" I was stopped when my cellphone began to vibrate in my pocket and the ringer went off. 'The lazy song' by Bruno Mars began to play.
I quickly pulled it out of my pocket clicked the answer button without bothering to see who was on the caller I.D. (My ringers are on random shuffle)
"Hello?"
"Claire! Where are you?!" Max shouted.
'Wow what great timing,' I thought to myself. "I'm...shopping?" I said looking up meeting Josh's intense gaze, making me feel really nervous for some reason.
"The school called and said you ditched. Seriously, Claire?" That's when I broke my eyes from Josh's to meet the floor.
"Er-yeah?" I began to figet with my other hand against the hem of my shirt. I could feel Josh' eyes still upon me. 'Stop staring!' I shoulted at him mentally as if he could hear my thoughts.
Max sighed, "Just come home now Claire. I need to tell you something important anyways."
"Something important what is it-"
"Just come home." He demanded cutting me off.
"Fine! Alright! Geez." I hung up the phone and stared at Josh's nose; anything but his eyes. "I gotta go." I said feeling guilty for some reason.
"Oh-er-Clair-"
"I'll see you tomorrow night!" I said making a break for it before he could stop me to ask me that question again.
Once I got home I sat in my car in my driveway just holding onto the steering wheel staring at...well nothing, I was just staring off into space through my windshield. I couldn't get the whole 'Josh wanting me to be his girlfriend' situation out of my head.
I must have been in the car for at least half an hour before I got out and made my way to the door, oh yeah...Max needed to talk to me about something important...
"Max?" I called shutting the front door behind me. "Max, are you here?" I called once more and Max appeared from around the corner of the living room.
He crossed his arms over his chest, trying to look stern as possible but you couldn't miss the smile that started to curve at the corner of his mouth. Oh that mouth of his...FOCUS CLAIRE!
"Right here. How was your day?" He asked.
'It started out boring, then it was going okay after a while, then all of a sudden to just to complete shit,' I wanted to say but instead I just said; "It was okay." I shrugged walking past him towards the kitchen then making my way back into the living room, sitting on the couch eating my glorious vanilla pudding.
"Your lieing." He stated sitting next to me flipping on the television to the stupid sports channel.
"No, I'm not."
"If it was okay, you wouldn't have skipped school and come home right away when I told you to." Dammit! He got me there.
"So?" Was all I could say, very mature of you Claire and so smart! Not!
