Anywhere But Here
"Good Morning class!" Mr. Josie said enthusiastically. I look up at him once I sit in my normal seat. At this point I would be getting out my cellphone; discreetly of course, or sleeping but something in his tone made me feel as though I should actually pay attention in his class for once. "Today I have a special assignment," maybe I was wrong? "Your going to be writing a short summary about the events that take place in your week. And if you mention anything adult rated I'll give you an automatic F." Okay, so the creepy guy wants to know our personal business? Is that even legal? "The reason for this being...you all I'm sure have heard of the janitor's recent death? Well, life is too short you know and this really isn't an assignment for me, it's for you. To open your eyes and not take even the smallest things for granted."
Wow, for some reason I felt as though he was preaching to us. Maybe there is something you should also know about Mr. Josie. Kevin Josie; age twenty-five, all the girls fall for his dashing good looks but when he opened his mouth to how...strict he really was when some of the girls stopped trying to talk to him and just started gawking at him instead. Me? I had no interest, I mean he's a freaking teacher after all and I had eyes for another guy older than me that wouldn't be considered illegal. I mean I am turning eighteen pretty soon!
When I look at Mr. Josie I see a grumpy old man who gets on my nerves. After him reading my note...the respect went from slim to none.
"So, Miss Guthrie you are staying after class for your detention right? Or do I have to make it another three days and banning you from going to the Spring Fling this Friday?" Mr. Josie came out of no where! Wow, I really need to stop zoning out!
"Um-" I couldn't speak so I just nodded instead.
"Good," he walked away from my desk and walked to the front of the class. "Now like I was saying, the assignment is due this Friday, I will not take any late work. My assignment is final." At that moment I had this sudden urge to just bang my head on the desk and start saying between each bang. F*ck. My. Life!
Once class was over I just sat there not attempting to make a break for it, I did that last time and look where it got me. An extended detention. "Glad to see you actually stayed." He smirked. I rolled my eyes.
"I couldn't allow you to take the opportunity of not going to the Spring Fling this Friday, since I promised I would go with someone." I said crossing my arms over my chest, glaring at his frowning face. Wait frowning? Why is he frowning?
"Oh." He mustered up to say and whiped the frown of his face with a smirk. "Am I going to have to chaperone you as well?" Chaperone me? What? "I'm one of the few teachers that's going. I was asked to be a chaperone. Oh...for a minute there...wow get over yourself Claire he's a teacher...he wouldn't look at a student like that!
Would he?
Mr. Josie clears his throat and shakes his head as if coming out of a daze. "You can use this time to start working on your summary."
"Mr. Josie, you know I have other classes to attend to right?"
"I've already talked to your second period teacher. The entire week is a free week so you have no work that needs to be done. As of your other classes I took the liberty of getting the assignments myself for the next three days, if you have any questions feel free to ask me. You are to stay here till lunch time and to report back to me."
"Don't you have other classes?"
He nods. "I have my first period, fourth period and seventh period. But you'll be sitting in my office doing your work in your other classes."
All this for skipping one little after class detention?
"Now if you think this is all because of that one detention you missed, your wrong. It's also for falling asleep in my class, texting, and using your time as a 'free' time. Surprisingly your passing my class but only with a C+. If you really apply yourself in here you can get an A easy as pie. I see you are passing all your other classes with nothing lower than a B- except for my class, why is that?" Because your too strict and your class bores me but I didn't say that of course instead I kept my mouth shut and pulled out a piece of paper getting ready to write my summary.
