Chapter 14 Chris

Bryce looked so sweet while she was asleep, I can't believe what she's going through. I tried to comfort her, we didn't get lunch but it looked as though she needed to talk. I could see that she felt some relief, I certainly did, for her.

The ride was spent in awkward silence. There was a slight bit of tension between us. But I tried my best to make it light.

-    Bryce I just want to tell you that I'm super glad you're my costar. As a friend, I'm telling you that you shouldn't worry about Seth. But if he does anything else to even upset you give me a call and I'll straighten him out.

I hear her laugh at my stupid remark.

-    No I'm not kidding, honestly, when ever you are in need of someone to talk to, I'm here. – I finish saying and she nods.

-    Thank you Chris, Anna is a really lucky woman to have a husband like you.

I reach over to her seat and put my hand on hers. It's warm and small.
She doesn't remove her hand from under mine, she looks at me and I could see the small smile grow on her face. I don't know how to explain but when our hands touched I could feel something at the pit of my stomach. I didn't want to let go of her hand, so I let it stay there until we arrived. Her hands were shaking and she had lost the colour in her face.

-    Here have my jacket, you look cold. – I tell her as I wrap my leather jacket around her shoulders that the only thing covering them was a blue jacket.

-    Thank you. - she says and I nod.

She stares out of the window and I try to break the silence between us.

She Interrupts me before I get the chance to say anything.

-    I forgot to ask you... How did jacks birthday go?

-    It was fine thank you. We had pretty much the whole family from both sides over and A LOT of cake.

She giggles and I smile. The tension sort of lightens up. When I notice the studio up front , I sigh.

We park up front and Bryce hands me my jacket. It still raining so I let her keep it whilst we get in. We both step out of the car and run towards the entrance.

-    I think we made it. – I say to her while we get to the meeting room.

I open the door for her and I go in after, nearly everyone is there.

-    Ah! There you are. We were starting to think that you guys were going to take the rest of the day off.

-    Sorry Colin. There was so much traffic. – Bryce says.

We sit down next to each other.

We finish up the reading the last few scenes and I want to reach over to put my arm on Bryce. I really do, but I remind myself that I have a wife at home and a kid, I would hate to do something to upset Anna. So I decide against it and continue reading.

- right lets go over the bungalow scene again. - Colin says and I oblige.
- could we begin?- he asks gesturing to me. I nod and begin to read.
- what do they want now?
Bryce says her line with her sweet voice.
- Mr Grady, I need you to take a look at something.
- why do you call me Mister Grady?
- Owen..if you are not too busy.
- oh I'm busy.
- we have an attraction.
- that wasn't what you said the last time I saw you.
- I'm talking about the dinosaurs, we've  designed a new species.
- You just went and made a new dinosaur?
-Yeah, that's kind of what we do here.
I chuckle.
- the exhibit opens up in about three weeks in May, Mr Masarani wanted me to consult with you.
- you want to consult here or in my bungalow?
- it's not funny.
- it's a little funny.
- we need you to inspect the paddock for vulnerabilities.
-why me?
- I guess, since Mr Masarani think you are able to control the raptors—
- I don't control the raptors. It's a relationship, it's based on mutual respect... That's why you and I never had a second date.
- excuse me, I never wanted a second date.
- who brings an itinerary to a date?
- I'm an organised person
- what kind of a diet doesn't allow tequila?
- all of them actually. And what kind of a man shows up to date in board shorts?
- it's Central America, it's hot.
- alright, can we just focus on the asset please?
- the asset? Look I get it here you have to make tough decisions, it might be easier looking at these animals like numbers on a spreadsheet, but they aren't, they're alive.
-I'm fully aware the are alive?
- you might've made them in a test tube, but they don't know that, all they are thinking is that, I gotta eat, I gotta hunt, I gotta .... You can relate to at least one of those things?
- I'll wait for you in the car... You might want to change your shirt, then again they are very sensitive to smell.

I look at Bryce and I smile, she begins to giggle. Colin tells us that we are dismissed.

- thank you all! I'd like to say that we'll start filming next Friday in Hawaii! So if everyone could get ready that be great.
I walk with Bryce to the entrance and accompany her to her car.

- thank you Chris so much!
I hug her.
- hey it's no problem, anytime ok? I'll see you next Friday at the airport?
She nods and I open the car door for her. She hugs me.
- bye! - she says as she gets in.
I wait for her to drive off and the. Get into my car.
I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket. It's Anna.
- hey- I tell her as I answer the call.
- hey. Chris are you on your way home?
- yes why?
- I just wanted to know! I'll see you her at home ok?
- yes.
I hang up and get into my car. I turn the engine on and start to drive. I can't think of anything. The only thing that pops up in my head is Bryce.
