Chapter 4 Bryce

I take a look around and spot the valet of the restaurant. I am only about 5 minutes late so I gather my things quickly before handing my car keys to the man working at the valet.

I literally run up the stairs and slow down before reaching the entrance of the restaurant.

The lady at the front desk asks me if I have a reservation, I reply with a yes before noticing Jess at the table.

"Oh sorry my friend is waiting." I say.

I make my way to the table and Jess stands up to hug me.

Jess and I have been mistaken for years because we are both gingers and we studied in New York at the same time. We worked together in the Help which was such a huge hit in 2011 but ever since then we've kept in contact.

"Bryce, oh my god you look amazing." She says.

" thank you, you too I mean wow, how long has it been?" I add

"2 years? I don't even know. How's Seth?"

We take a seat before continuing.

"He's good and the kids really want to see you. They've become very fond of you." I tell her.

The waiter comes around with the menus and we order our drinks.

Jess and I continue talking about her new show and we finally decide on what we want to eat. We call the waiter and he takes our orders.

We sit in silence for a few seconds and she breaks the silence with very exciting news.

"Bryce I've been wanting to tell you that..." She pauses and brings out her hand from under the table.

I look cautiously at her hand where a diamond ring sits on top of her finger. I look at her with a smile on my face and she finally finishes the sentence.

"I'm engaged!" She finally says with joy in her tone.

"My god, Jess congratulations, he finally proposed, when is it going to happen? How did he ask?" I exclaim

Jess rambles on about an hour about how her fiancé made dinner and he hired some waiters to help and they put the ring in their champagne, so on.

" we are going to wait a year because he's filming a movie and he wants to make it special." The smile on my friends face grows as she tells. I congratulate her a few more times and she finally  asks to me to be her maid of honour.

" I'll definitely be there, wow." I tell her

"But hey now it's your turn. Tell me what's going on in your life?" She asks taking a sip from her wine. I am not so sure if I should tell her about my role in Jurassic world but finally decide I should.

"Well, I have pretty good news aswell. I.. Well.. I don't know of you know about the ucoming movie in the Jurassic park series Jurassic world but I had an interview with the director and well he-" I attempt but knowing Jess she interrupts with her assumption.

"He casted you?" She asks

I nod in confirmation to her question.

" Bryce that's incredible, when did this happen, when is it coming out? I mean this is a huge deal!" She states.

" well actually there is more.." I see listen to me with full attention.

" the director wants to cast Chris Pratt to be my co star In The movie. But but its not confirmed." I her squeal in excitement to the news.

" you are going to have a blast! I can't wait for the premiere!" She says.

We spend the rest of the afternoon talking about her wedding and how it's going to be and that I will try to be there.

We begin to say our goodbyes around 8 and I tell her to come over to the house so that she can see the kids on Sunday. She agrees to the plans and we say our goodbyes before I get my car delivered at the valet. I turn the car on and drive off, it's takes me 20 minutes to get home from the restaurant, when I go up stairs I find Seth and the kids watching toy story 2, I smile. Seth catches me watching them and pauses the movie. 

"Kids it's mommy! Go say hi. " he tells them.

"Mommy! Come watch the movie with us!" Theo says as he hugs me.

"Mommy! Where were you? " trice asks me.

" I was having dinner with aunt Jess." I tell them and I see their faces light up in glee. They call her their aunts as she has known both of them since they were born.

"She's coming to see you guys on Sunday! Theo you finish watching the movie with your sister in the mean time I need daddy to come haelp with a few things ok?"

" ok " they say synchronised.

Seth and I walk to the bedroom and he greets me with a small kiss.

"How's Jess?" He asks me sitting at the desk.

"She's good, she's getting married!" I tell him.

"Really ?" I see the expression on his face telling me that this has really surprised him.

I nod and get my things ready for tomorrow.

"Seth,honey have you gotten your things ready for the party tomorrow?" I ask him.

He look clueless.

" what party?" He asks not knowing what I'm talking about about. " "the golden globes after party?" I continue.

" I am meeting with a few friends tomorrow I can't I am really sorry." He says as he reaches in for a hug.

"YOU WHAT?" I yell " I told you  about this party wells ago and i kept telling you.

"I forgot I'm sorry, I'll go to the next one." He says  making the fury inside me grow.

"You need to cancel, some things are a bit more important than going to the bar with a few frie-" I stop as I hear theo at the door.

Seth looks at me and I turn to him, knowing that's the signal he  goes put the kids to bed. I sit on the bed waiting  for him to come back

I feel hot tears run down my cheeks. I see him stand in the door way.

" look Bryce I can't cancel, I was really hoping you'd-" I cut him off

" no I will not understand, you keep doing this ,every single fucking time I have an event and I want you to come you plan something else, I am so fucking tired of this Seth . I come to support you why can't you do it back?" I tell him no longer feeling angry, but hurt.

"don't be such a  selfish bi-" but he closes his mouth before finishing hi sentence.

"I do come to your events but-"

" what were you going to say, that I was a selfish what?" He looks pale as he sees my reaction. I feel more hot tears reach my cheeks and the moment he opens his mouth I cut him off.

"No Seth, you are sleeping in the guest room tonight." I tell him and he only looks at me cry before gathering his clothes and leaving the room.

I don't  get it, he can be a father to our children but not a proper husband to me. I get myself ready for bed, I brush my teeth and  then dress, I get into bed, I close my eyes but the only thing I can think about now is the golden globes awards after party tomorrow. And finally I drift off to sleep.
