CANDY

We continued to drive until pulling up to a small cottage and a parking lot with few spaces. There was one other car. A large red pick up truck coated in mud.

My brothers jump out of the car starting a game of tag almost instantly. I rolled my eyes as my mom yelled at them to calm down and behave.

I turned my music down slightly just in case someone tried to talk to me. We started toward the small building. There was something written above the door, but the paint was chipped and I couldn't make out what it said.

My father opened the door and a small bell went off. The place was a lot nicer on the inside then it was on the outside. My siblings caught sight of the candy bowl sitting on the coffee table.

"Mommy. May we please have one piece?" My brother, Daniel, asked while the other, James, made a puppy dog face. I scoffed at the word one.

"Well, I don't see why not." My mother said giving them a smile. "Yay!" They shouted. My mother looked up at me and gave me a kind smile. "Why don't you take one as well, Cam. A little sugar never hurt you." I just stared at her, no emotion clear on my face.

I was still mad at her for dragging me along with them. I don't like camping. I don't like the outdoors in general. I could be spending my Friday in bed with pizza and Netflix. But, no. I'm taking a tour of a camp site that I doubt is still in business.

We continued to stare at each other until she was over it. "Fine. We are here to enjoy ourselves. If you can't do that then go wait I'm the car. But we're not leaving until we finish looking around." She sighed out before leaving the room. "Kindly." I muttered.

I looked at my brother before walking out the door. The both had their pockets stuffed with candy clearly trying to take as much as they could with them. "Only one piece, huh?" I asked crossing my arms and quirking my eyebrows up. They both put a single finger to their mouth and made a "shh" noise. "Throw me a sucker." I sighed out rolling my eyes. Daniel did as he was told with a big mischievous smile playing on his lips.

I made my way to the car focusing on getting the wrapping paper off my candy. I stuck the small sphere on a stick in my mouth, letting out a satisfying him as the flavor touched my taste buds.

I sat down in the back seat just so I could sprawl out on the leathered seats. I pulled out my phone and opened up YouTube. I got comfy and clicked on my first video, "internet support group 2".

After quite a few videos I looked up and saw the sun setting. I sighed and sat up to go check on my family. I got out of the car and took one step before getting a shiver from my neck and down my spine. I turned slightly, catching sight of a shadow from behind me. I spun around so quick I had to catch my balance. I saw nothing as I looked around.

My breathing had picked up and I felt my stomach drop. The sun was nearly down and I couldn't help but turn on my heal and instantly start to run for the door. I opened it quick and jumped inside. I put my back to the door and slid down.

I let my breathing settle for a minute. I got up and looked around. The cottage was dark and quiet. I looked down at the candy bowl that my brothers had emptied earlier. But, it was no longer empty. It was full.
