A/N; that is Jake ----> haha (:
The shock didn't reach me until I set eyes on Jake the next morning,
"Maggie, hey!" He called, before falling into step beside me.
"Hey Jake," I tied a small band around the end of my long black plait, "Ready to work?"
"You know it babe," He put a hand on my waist and pulled me into his side, "Anything to spend all day with you!"
Then it hit me, babe? Last night... Oh god. He had kissed me, then I kissed him, then again, and again. Shit.
"Jake, uh," I stuttered, "I think you need to take your arm off me."
"Why?" He looked confused as I stepped away from him, "Mags, did I do something?" The poor guy looked like he was going to cry!
"No, no, no!" I reassured, "I just think we need to take it easy, especially here. I'm your boss right now Jake, it's just not a good look."
"Mmmhm.." He looked sideways, away from where Harley was approaching.
"Hey Har," I plasterd a fake smile onto my face as I edged further away from Jake's side, "How was your night?"
"It was okay Mags, yours?" Tears brimmed in my eyes as soon as he asked,
"Uh, good." I choked out before tears began to fall.
"Ready to go for a ride? I have geared Buckley up all ready." He insisted, rather than asked, placing a strong arm around my shoulders and steering me away from the last person I could speak to right now. Handing me Buckley's reins as soon as I was seated he nodded, we knew it meant, 'Meet you at our meadow.' I turned quickly, one with the horse beneath me and urged him to gallop from the barn and away from Jake. I feel horrible, I mean - I kissed the guy back! But this morning, I am so afraid to see him. Commitment phobe? I think so.
"Maggie. What's going on?" Harley demanded as soon as he connected with the ground,
"Har, I have to tell you something. Please don't get angry? No matter what?" I stuttered, at barely more than a whisper,
"Mags, your scaring me! Please tell me." He cupped my cheeks in his palms,
"Har, I kissed Jake." I mumbled, looking down. Harley didn't answer, instead he tilted my head to look at him. Seeing my tears threats of falling he pulled me close to his chest and allowed me to cry a wet patch into his plaid work shirt.
"Shhh Maggie, it's okay!" He cooed into my hair, I drew short ragged breaths against him as I found no tears remaining, "Maggie, I don't really mind you kissed him. Or that he kissed you, whatever. I just care your happy, that's all I want as your best friend! He makes you happy, right?" I nodded against his chest, he continued, "Then go for him. Not straight away, don't let him think all you want is to get laid!"
"Harley! You’re such a dick!" I tried to stay angry as I pulled myself away, but couldn't help smiling back at his crooked grin, "I'm gunna kick your ass one of these days Harley Smith." I stated as I through my arms around his neck, then planted a sloppy kiss on his cheek. But did I really want to be with Jake? My insides churned.
"Ready to go? We have heaps to do, I saw your roster." Harley smirked, wiping his cheek with the back of his hand,
"Shut up. I just wanna get the big stuff out of the way," I pushed him, "Race you home!" I was barely settled into my saddle as my horse whirled beneath me and took off towards home.
"Whoa Buck, whoa," I laughed at the clattering of metal horse shoes on concrete as I cantered through the barn, "Atta boy, whoa now."
"Make enough noise?" Jake suddenly appeared, my heart skipped a beat.
