A few days later and I was finally able to bring myself to leave the safety of my room. I walked to the barn in the early hours of the morning, before the sun or anybody else had risen. I left a snoring Harley in bed with a note telling him I’d be back in a few hours.
“Buckley, hey,” I said softly, trying to wake him.
“What a stupid idea,” A girl muttered as I slipped into Buckley’s stall, “Why did I do this, huh Tosca?” Tosca? He is one of dad’s horses, what the shit is going on here?
“Hello?” I called, “Who’s there?” The new comer fell silent, “Please answer me? Hello?” I let myself out of Buckley’s stall in time to see a girl with long black hair disappearing into Tosca’s box, “Come on, I won’t hurt you, I swear!” I called to her.
“It’s not you I’m worried about!” She answered.
“Who is it then?”
“Chase Mitchells.” She replied. Chase? Why?
“Chase is a great guy!” I peeked over the gate and spied a pretty girl sitting on the ground. She had long black hair like mine, blue eyes shining out from behind a full fringe. A red streak in her hair stuck out as she got to her feet, she was wearing denim cut offs and a plaid shirt.
“Yeah, great guy.” She said sarcastically.
“What’s that meant to mean?” I quizzed, eager to defend Chase.
“He is my big brother,” She rolled her eyes, “I’m Paige,” She offered her hand, “Paige Mitchells.”
“How come I haven’t seen you before?”
“You might also know me as Beau.” She smiled.
“Beau?” I racked my brain, “He is the guy I assigned Tosca to?”
“Uh, awkward how that was me.” Paige laughed.
“You?” I tilted my head to the side like a confused dog, “What?”
“How about we go for a ride, then I can explain.” Paige offered.
“Yeah, give me five.” I walked away, as confused as I was at the beginning of the morning. A little over five minutes later I met Paige and Tosca outside. She was sitting on Tosca, the black Arabian gelding. His dished face was low to the ground and a white star was shining in the rising light. “Let’s go then. Just follow me; we can go somewhere the boys won’t find us.” I settled in my saddle then asked Buckley to trot off from the barn, eventually letting him gallop when we passed onto grass. We rode through the farm and up to the back, where our mares and foals were sleeping. I smiled as I spotted my old horse, a black mare. Buckley whinnied to the mares as we rode closer, “So,” I stopped Buckley, “Care to explain?”
“Oh man, already?” Paige asked, I grinned at her, “Okay… I’m a twin. Beau is my brother, so is Chase,” I nodded, “Beau got sick just before he was meant to go. Like really sick! We look really alike especially when I have a wig on, my boobs strapped like that chick in She’s the Man, and when I am their hideous clothes,” She made a face, “So I decided to come instead. But,” She paused dramatically, “Chase wouldn’t let me. So I went from Paige to Beau,” I shook my head,
