After Sam left Mia fed herself and Carson and head upstairs to continue going through the boxes in one of the 6 extra bedrooms. The stuff had actually been left there by the people that sold the place to Ben and his wife so while alot of the stuff was junk, there was some pretty cool stuff as well. Carson was happily cooing in his bouncer in the corner of the room and Mia was yet again waist bent over a box when she heard Gavin knock and call her name.
"Gavin, up here last bedroom on the left." She called out to him and then saw him find her.
'HI Mia. Hi buddy..." He crouched down and started talking to Carson, who just intently stared back at him. Straightening, he looked at Mia and asked,
"Do you have a minute? I wanted to run something by you."
"Of course! Whats up Gavin."
"I wanted to know how you felt about Sam." Mia felt herself flush and wondered what he meant. "What I mean is, we are a bed short in the bunkhouse and he slept in his truck last night. We all offered to give up our beds but he wouldn't hear of it. I was wondering if we could put him up in the house here? But only if your ok with it. He's a man of honor and you wouldn't have anything to worry about but I hate seeing the boss man sleeping in his truck."
"Oh....Oh...I didnt know that and I agree, he shouldnt have to sleep in his truck. I cant believe he didnt say anything! I'm almost done cleaning this room up and will get it ready for him. Thanks for letting me know Gavin. Poor guy!"
"I thought you would understand. Thanks Mia. Do you mind, will you tell him? I think he will be more likely to accept if it came from you."
"Of course. No worries, him and his men have been through enough and Im happy to help any way I can." Mia briefly wondered how she truly felt about having him in her home. Feet away from her room and all those lonely nights stretched ahead of her.
"It wont be for long. Sam said that the insurance company will be bringing in a modular building that is similar to the destroyed bunkhouse, for temporary housing until they rebuild. Oh, also, one of the ladies from town, Julia, will be out later to talk to you. Im not sure what about but heard she was going around to all the places nearby. She's loved Sam forever, you will like her."
"OK, thanks for the heads up Gavin. I truly appreciate all you do."
It was Gavin's turn to blush and he nodded at her and Carson and left the house.
Julia had loved Sam forever huh? Her heart twisted thinking about another woman with her sights on Sam but what right did Mia have to feel that way? Just because he kissed her a few times? Deciding not to dwell on it...and failing she set about cleaning the room and getting it ready for her new housemate. She wondered about this Julia too. Was she coming to warn her off her 'man'. Her hackles raised just thinking about it which made her also wonder what that meant and what she wanted from Sam. More kisses for sure but more? Maybe. Her first priority was Carson and the ranch. She did feel out of sorts not having a job and wanted to find something to occupy her time without taking away from the baby.
Soon Mia was done and pretty proud of all her hard work on the room. She had removed all the girly bedspreads and put on clean sheets and a solid light brown comforter she found in the hall closet. She tried to stay focused but her imagination got away from her. Visions of her and him entagled on the bed rolling around....
Then Carson pped up letting out a grunt. She was smiling when she picked up for a cuddle. Leave it to him to bring her back to reality!
"Such a good baby." She murmured into his hair.
She took him dowstairs for his next bottle and out the window saw an SUV pull in. A woman stepped out. Julia. Great, here we go. She met the woman at the back door.
