Sam had caught on to her game plan and was more than willing to participate. Yes, it was for show but it was real as well. The feelings blooming between them were real and hard to suppress.
"Hey guys. Carson is getting restless. Thought I would bring him back to his momma. He's got a fresh diaper though." Emily interrupted their make out session. Mia opened her eyes and took Carson.
"Thanks Emily." Mia kissed Carson's forehead, inhaling the baby scent. "Time for supper, huh big guy." Sam was about to escort her into the house but they were intercepted by Christie again.
"Ready to have that talk Sam?" She asked, hands on her hips again.
Sam breathed in deeply and gave Mia an apologetic look.
"Its ok Sam. Get it over with and come see me when your done." Mia stood up on tiptoe and gave him a lingering kiss. His hands fell away from her when she headed to the house.
Mia fed Carson and went up to his nursery to rock him to sleep. Today had been amazing. She was so happy with her new surroundings and the people in it. She looked forward to building a life here. She didn't need fancy things or alot of money. The things she once thought she wanted when she lived in the big city. With her little nephew and perhaps a sexy cowboy on her side, she didn't need much else.

Sam walked with Christie to the sidelines of the party. Before she could lead him into a dark corner, he stopped her. He wanted to still be able to be seen so there was not question of improper things happening. They had enough privacy to clear the air.
"Christie, look. Im sorry if I lead you on..." He started.
"I thought you said you weren't ready for a relationship Sam. Now I see you lip locked with some city slicker that no one knows. She isn't from our world Sam. I am! I'm the right match for you, not her."
Sam exhaled loudly. He didn't want to hurt her feeling but he really wanted to make it clear that nothing would happen between them.
"Christie, I really thought that was the case. We went out a couple of times..."
"That's not all we did, Sam. We made love. It was incredible. Don't tell me that you didn't feel it."
"I shouldn't have slept with you. It was nice but it just wasn't going to turn into anything more and I didn't want to lead you on. Move on with your life Christie. Find someone who will love you like you deserve. I'm not that guy. I realized after a couple dates that the zing wasn't there for us. That's why I called things off. Please, I don't want any trouble but there is no future for us."
"Nice? It was nice? It blew my mind Sam. Please, I can do better. I can be more bold or try other things...We can go on other dates. There is a new restaurant over at.."
"Stop! Christie, seriously. I want to be clear. It wasn't something you did or didn't do. Either it happens or it doesn't. And for us, it didn't happen. I wish you the best but no more." And with that Sam headed back to the house.
"Fine Sam. Screw Mia! Get it out of your system and when your ready I might consider taking you back but you will have to crawl!" She said. Thank goodness they were still far enough away from the crowd that no one overheard her crude comments. Sam didn't even falter in his steps, he just shook his head and hightailed it inside.

Mia heard someone come inside and when they started climbing the stairs she knew it was a certain hot cowboy.
