Part 15

True to his word Sam went with her to the first appointment. He woke up with a permanent smile on his face and all but hustled her there.

He was slightly disappointed when all they did was take blood and comfirm what they already knew but then he perked up and probably was the happiest person at the pharmacy when they went to get her prenatals.

His good mood was infectious and Mia found herself and Carson going along with it.

Chelsie continued to contact Sam and give him updates. She dropped hint about 'meeting' up to discuss things but Sam patiently told her ever time that it wasnt going to happen.

4 weeks later was Mia's next appointment and they were waiting for her name to be called. Carson was at the daycare so it was just her and Sam. Sam sat on her left, he had laced his fingers with hers and with his other hand he traced her ring finger.

"You should have my ring here Mia." Her head popped up from the magazine she was trying to pretend to read.

"Say what?" She stuttered?

He was interrupted by the nurse calling her name, it was her turn to go back. Sam practically beat her there but never let go of her hand.

They took her back and recorded her vitals.

"OK Mia. Hop up on the exam table, lay back and lets hear the heartbeat." The nurse said.

Mia lay back and the nurse lifted up her shirt a bit and placed a microphone looking thing to her belly. For a minute all they could hear was Mia's heartbeat but the nurse moved it a couple times and sure enough there was a rapid wooshing sound in there with hers.

"And there's your baby."

"He's beautiful." Sam said softly.

"Saaam! You can't see the baby aaand it just might be a girl, ya know." She said laughing softly.

"I can feel it, he's beautiful and Carson needs a brother."

Mia rolled her eyes but kissed him back when he placed his lips on hers.

"Love you..." He said fiercely.

"Love you too."

Sam had arranged for Emily to watch Carson so he could take her out to dinner again to celebrate.

This time he took her out to a very elegant Italian restaurant and reserved a private table in the back corner. When they arrived and she say how he was trying to impress her, it hit her that he would propose to her tonight. And she would say yes. She wouldn't hesitate. Yeah, he had baggage but so did she and he was her other half. She couldn't wait.

Appetizers were delivered and Sam was entertaining her with a story about some stories about his ranch and various mishaps that had happened over the years that had her laughing so hard her cheeks heart.

"Today was amazing Mia." Sam took her hand in his and gave it a gentle squeeze. "You have brought so much happiness into my life. Somehow you love this rough cowboy despite his downfalls. You gave me your love and now your giving me out child. I can't express how happy I am." His eyes shined with the love an thankfulness he was feeling.

"Oh Sam. I feel the same way. I feel like whatever obstacle is placed before us! We can conquer together." She said, blinking back tears.

"I want us to be married. Not just because of the baby. Because I love you and want you in my life."

He reached into his suit pocket and pulled out a black velvet box. He opened it to reveal the most beautiful ring Mia had ever seen. She gasped and put her hand over her mouth.

"This ring was my grandmothers. My grandparents were married 58 happy wonderful years and I want to give this to you and attempt to beat that record. With you. Please say you will be my wife Mia." He asked hoarsely.

"Yes, Sam. I will marry you." Before she could blink he was around the table and pulling her up into his arms. He kissed her mouth and face saying "thank you" and "I love you" until she giggled.

People within earshot were beaming at them and their moment. Sam and Mia had permanent smiles on their faces throughout the rest of their meal.

The ride home was full of hand holding and cuddling and their dreams of their future.

Soon they were home, Emily was gone and they stood in front of Carson's crib watching the baby sleep. Sam was behind Mia with his arms around her as they gazed at the sweet baby.
