"Back where?"
My eyes grew wide as I thought of any way to avoid letting him know I saw him at the playground, but a part of me really did want to know what he was doing there. I'm not usually the shy-type girl so I just spilled it out.
"Uhm, I kinda saw you at the playground earlier and well, you were just sitting there like you're sleeping. What were you doing that time?" I asked, trying to sound not too eager.
As he processed my words, he shot up from his lying position to a sitting one. He stretched his arms, let out a yawn, and then rubbed his right eye with his right hand while his left hand patted the space next to him. I stood up from the floor and sat next to him the same way I sat on the floor. Waiting for him to finish rubbing his eyes, I probably stared at him for a minute or so. His hair was in a mess, but he looked so adorable, adding the fact that he looked like a kid who just woke up from a very nice dream.
"You done checking me out?" he exclaimed, now in the same way that I was sitting so that we're facing each other.
I don't know why, but seeing him this way made me feel like I've known him for a while already. I didn't feel the sudden annoyance or my badmouthing habit that usually came whenever I'm talking to a jerk. I pursed my lips into a thin line and said, "Yeah, you're way too adorable for me. Ha ha." with a wink. "So, what was it?"
He already knew what I was talking about and he just let out a short and weird answer. "I loved that tree."
Uhh, okay? "..and..?" I asked, gesturing him to continue with my hands.
"Uhh, that's it..?" he said, like he was also questioning himself if there was more to it or not. "Wait, where were you at that time anyway? I didn't see anyone else so I thought I was alone."
"Well, if you looked around I'm pretty sure you would've seen me. I was like right there," I made an invisible line from him to me, "at the swing, right across where you were. I got tired from jogging so I rested there for a while, then you came into the view and just sat there."
He made an O shape with his mouth and closed it. "Tell you what, if you stick around longer then I'll let you know all you wanna know about me."

So that's how I ended up being Lee's bestfriend. I stayed at his house until like 9 am. I even met his friend Matt who turned out to be his bandmate and one of his closest friends. I kinda blurted out about their conversation that I saw on Lee's phone, but they just laughed about it and said that's just how they were. Lee didn't even seem to care about the fact that I opened his phone without me asking for permission. When I told him that, he just replied.. "I like you. I mean not like you like you, but I like your personality. One minute you seem so tough and the next you're just too cute." That didn't make sense to me, but hey, at least he didn't make a fuss about it. My mom called his phone around noon and that's the only time I got home to take my long-awaited shower.
As I was saying, I became quite popular in school (though I'd never wish for it) either because people envied or hated me for being Lee's bestfriend, or because they liked me just as well as Lee did. I didn't have an idea at first that Lee was quite the mischievous guy like I was until we went to school. One time I was in my History class when I received a text message from him:
Lee the Panda: Man I hate Math so much
I let out a soft giggle as I texted him back:
Yeah I know, you've told me that like a billion times now
Not a minute later, he texted me again:
Lee the Panda: We're doing these extra long ones and I could just die looking at it
I was quite sure that he was still in his Math class so I was wondering how he managed to reply that fast. I replied:
You sure? Then how come you're texting me?
Again, under one minute he replied. This time it was a long one! Geez, what a fast texter he is for a guy..
Lee: Got kicked out of class lol Mr. Berkley put this really long prob on the board and he called me to solve it. I told him I'd rather not but he insisted so I got up erased the board and said 'problem solved'
I started laughing at his text that my teacher called me up. "Ms. Mitchell, do you have anything to share to the class?" said Mr. Henson. My classmates drifted their eyes to me and some gave a weird look while others looked like they're bored to death. History isn't really my thing, so I just got up and said, "Yes, sir. I really have to take a dump right now, would you please excuse me?" I gave him an innocent smile and without waiting for an answer, I quickly got out of the room. I heard laughter errupt in the room as I exited the door.
