"Are you alright Jake?" Amber asked me for the third time today.

It's been a couple of days since my parents left and I'm not gonna lie, I'm still pretty upset over it. Amber's off punishment so she's back at the garage working with us.

"I'm fine, Amber." I replied back to her sitting on a chair near the car I've been working on.

"Alright, I was just asking." She said shrugging her shoulders and continuing to sweep the floor.

"Well don't ask me anymore." I stated rather harshly.

She rolled her eyes before walking away. I didn't mean to say it like that and I know she's just trying to make sure I'm alright but I can't get anything done.

I'm glad we only have four weeks until our last year of high school starts.

All of a sudden Marcus came into the garage with a boy my age coming in behind him.

"Aye, where's Amber at?" Marcus asked looking around the garage.

"She's in the back room." I told him.

"Amber get in here!" Marcus yelled.

After a couple of seconds she appeared in the door way.

"Yes uncle?" She questioned with a fake smile on her face.

"I want you guys to meet my new worker, his name is Julius." He introduced us to him.

I greeted him with a simple head nod and a handshake. Amber greeted him with a smile and also a handshake. The way he was looking at her doesn't sit with me too well though.

Trust me, I know by the look in his eyes that he wants her. I know these type of things. So to let him know that she's mine I went over to her and kissed her on the cheek.

"Hey, no PDA in here!" Marcus yelled making Amber jump.

I chuckled a little making Amber hit my chest.

"Amber, why don't you show the young fella around?" Marcus asked her.

"I could show him around." I interrupted them.

"But I asked her." Marcus mean mugged me.

"There isn't much to show but okay, I will." Amber stated.

Once she said that I seen a smile on Julius' face.

"Okay, follow me." Amber instructed before heading towards the back where she just came from.

I  wanted to grab her into my hands and tell her that she should stay in here with me but no I just let her go.

That left Marcus and I in the room alone.

"You two got something going on?" Marcus asked with a eyebrow raised.

I nodded my head. "We've been dating for a couple of weeks now." I told him honestly.

"Y'all know y'all can't date right." Marcus said cracking a smile.

I shook my head and scrunched up my nose.

"Why?" I asked him.

"White and black don't mix at all. I've never seen a white guy with a black girl, you're better off finding you a hot white chick. Black girls are too fussy anyways." He told me making my mouth hang low.

"I think we're doing pretty fine and I'm really attracted to her." I stated rolling my eyes at him.

"I'm just saying, get out while you can. In a couple of months she's gonna turn into a crazy black women. Watch what I tell you." He replied back chuckling a little.

"I can't believe you'll talk about your niece like this and isn't your wife black?" I asked him.

"She's mixed, nothing crazier than a full black women." He answered me busting out laughing.

I shook my head and continued to work on the car.

"What's so funny unc?" Amber asked coming out of the back with Julius following her.

"Nothing." He said waving her off.

I shook my head which I'm pretty sure Amber saw.

"Oh okay." She stated looking at me with a intense stare.

"Jake, can I talk to you in private?" She asked gesturing towards the back.

I nodded my head before following her to the back.

I quickly wiped my hands off on a rag I carry in my back pocket.

We stood in silence as she stared at me.

"Let me guess, you heard what he said?" I asked her.

She nodded her head and instantly a tear spilled out of her eye.

I wrapped my arm around her waist as she grabbed onto my neck.

"I'm so sorry baby." I said as she cried into my neck.

"Nobody wants us together." She cried letting it all out.

"It doesn't matter what they think. They're not gonna change my feelings towards you." I replied back to her honestly.

She looked up at me before connecting her lips to mine. I grabbed her neck gently and wrapped her legs around my waist.

It was like she took all her anger out through that kiss because she even started pulling my hair and digging her nails into my shoulders.

We stared at each other once I released from the kiss.

"Woah." I said trying to catch my breath.

"Thank you for trying to defend me, it means a lot to me that you actually care." She stated hugging onto me.

That warmed my heart because I really do care about her.

"I have to defend what's mine." I said kissing her on the forehead.
