"You know what, Clint? I'll stay with you forever."
Clint's heart fluttered upon hearing that and his smile grew.
They walked further down the street and chanced upon a mini carnival.
"Look at that giant Nemo plush!" Natasha squealed and pointed to the orange toy hanging at one of the game booths.
"You like it?" Clint asked and looked back at her.
Natasha nodded.
They approached the store and found it was dart throwing.
"Good evening friends, have a try! Get three bullseyes and the toy's yours! But I have to warn you, it ain't that easy." The man in a top hat said welcomingly.
Clint smirked and looked at Natasha.
They shot each other knowing glances before Clint wheeled himself forward and paid money for a try.
He took the lower board meant for children and aimed the first dart.
Needless to say, it was a bullseye. Natasha clapped.
It went the same for the second dart, and when Clint was on the last dart, he held it up pointing at the target then looked at Natasha and winked.
With a flex of his wrist, he threw the dart without looking. Bullseye.
"Wow, you're a professional!" The store keeper praised and took the Nemo plush down, handing it to Natasha.
"It's just what I do." Clint replied humbly.
The pair waved goodbye to the store keeper and carried on to the Ferris wheel.
They got into a blue carriage and settled back as the wheel made its round.
In the darkness of the small carriage illuminated only by the lights of other attractions and billboards, Clint's hand found Natasha's.
"Sweetheart, I'm not ever gonna leave again. I'm gonna hold your hand forever." He brought her hand up to his lips and kissed her knuckles.
Natasha smiled and moved into his embrace as he wrapped an arm round her. She hugged Nemo close and rested her head in the crook of Clint's shoulder.
As the couple enjoyed the few lasting moments of silence and proximity, the neon lights in the distance illuminated their faces, the palettes of a bright future together.
The lights grew blurry in their tired eyes, but nothing was clearer than the promises made and the unmistakable trust that wound around the flowering relationship, keeping it present and intact.
---------------------------------------------
A month passed and the night at the carnival remained etched deeply in the recesses of their minds.
Natasha had successfully been accepted into her desired college and Clint was still searching for an opportunity to pursue his passion in archery.
Natasha had gotten a makeover. She cut her hair short and curled it as she believed that a new phase of her life required a new look to go along with.
Clint thought she looked extremely adorable and he loved to curl his finger around a lock of her hair.
They spent nights together at Natasha's house, mainly because Natasha didn't quite like Clint staying in that rented room in the flat owned by a burly man who looked to be from the triads.
Clint had insisted he was a nice man but Natasha had persuaded him that it wasn't safe and that people who had animosity with him could come anytime.
Truth be told, Clint was rather glad staying with Natasha. He loved how she would fall asleep in his arms at night, and especially loved seeing her beautiful green eyes first thing in the morning.
It was the beginning of a new year, and a new start for their lives ahead.
Surprises? Maybe. Obstacles? Definitely. But Natasha and Clint knew that as long as they stayed together, there wasn't anything they couldn't overcome.
