I waited for a minute, but heard nothing from inside the house. I rung the doorbell, faintly hearing the chiming inside the house. That's when I had heard shuffling, and Lucie saying, "Coming. "
She had unlocked the door and I took a step back, watching the door swung open. Lucie smiled and stepped aside, ushering me inside and I wiped my boots on the mat while Lucie shut the door.
"Would you like me to take your jacket?" She asked and I nodded, slipping the coat off my shoulders, and letting the jacket fall, but before it fell to the floor I had grabbed it by the collar. I handed it to Lucie and she hung it on a coat rack, a few feet from the door. I looked around the house, actually examining the walls and the pictures.
"Um, please sit." Lucie said after a minute of silence. I looked to where she was gesturing and took a seat in the white leather armchair.
"Thank you." I said and she had nodded, sitting in the matching couch, located next to me. She clasped her hands and leaned forward slightly.
"So, that lead... What is it?" She asked and I nodded, scooting to the edge of the seat and taking a deep breath.
"Well, I believe that he might have been targeted, for whatever reason, in a time area of two weeks." I said and Lucie nodded.
"Lucie, was he acting paranoid in the last couple of weeks? Maybe checking windows all the time, looking doors and windows repeatedly?" I asked and she nodded vigorously.
"Yeah, he would come home from work and immediately lock the door behind him. He would ask if there were any calls from anyone strange." She said as she stood up and turned around, walking towards a window, her back to me.
"Did he receive any calls from anyone strange?" I asked and she shook her head.
"Never. I had never received any phone calls. Not from anyone strange, anyways." She said and I nodded.
"Alright. Well, I have a person helping me right now, and she should be able to get something at least. Until then, we'll have to wait and see. I'll keep investigating though. I'll be sure to find your husband." I stated and she turned towards me.
"And your father." She said and I shook my head.
"No, my father is in Long Island." I stated, standing up and Lucie shook her head at me.
"Nathan is your father. Whether you like it or not, Destiny!" She stated, staring at me.
"You can't choose your family. "
"No, you do not get to tell me what I can or what I can't do, Lucie. I chose my family! Because the family that I had decided that abusing a child to her teen years was fucking hilarious." I snarled at her and she rubbed her forehead.
"I said that I was sorry, Destiny! I don't know what else you want me to say!" She exclaimed and I dryly laughed.
"There is nothing that you can say to make what happened to me any better. You hit a fucking 5 year-old, Lucie! You let Nathan slap, push, Hell, even break lamps over my head until I was 15. It's a miracle that I'm alive!" I exclaimed and Lucie looked away from me.
"I will admit, those were bad times, but Destiny! Please. You need to understand that I would give my life to change how you were raised. " She said, crying now and I shook my head, going to the coat rack and grabbing my jacket.
"Yeah, I would too. Because maybe, just fucking maybe I wouldn't have been a crack-whore like you." I said and left, putting my jacket on as I walked down the steps. I looked at the small flakes of snow, falling lazily to the ground. I grabbed my phone, and pulled up Sherlock's contact. I hit his number and it started to dial, I held the phone to my ear and waited for him to answer.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Babe." I said softly. He was silent and I took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry for snapping at you. The way I acted was unreasonable, and I apologize for it. " I said and it was his turn to sigh.
"Don't apologize, Destiny. It wasn't you who pushed you to the edge." He said and I smirked, chuckling.
"You've pushed me over many edges, Mr Holmes. It's kinda hard to remember which edge we're talking about. " I said and I heard him laugh.
"You know which edge I'm talking about." He said and I shook my head.
"I don't believe I do, Mr Holmes. I'll pretend I do, but I'll be completely honest, I don't remember." I lied making him catch on to forget about the fight.
"Shall I make a new edge to push you over?" He asked, his voice becoming slightly deeper, and I felt a blush creep to my cheeks and I chuckled slightly.
"Oh, that sounds promising. Sadly, I'll have to pass that offer. My boyfriend will be here soon to pick me up." I said, walking towards the park.
"Oh? And where would you be?" he asked and I could hear him shuffling around looking for the keys.
"I will be going to the park that's a few blocks away from the Maiden residence." I stated, hearing Sherlock hum in response.
"Well, I do hope he's there soon. I guess I'll talk to you later." He said and I chuckled.
"I guess so." I said and hung up, crossing the street, already seeing the park.
As I approached the entrance, I felt a shiver run down my spine. I slowly walked in and looked to the dead spot of grass that stayed in front of the gazebo. I tore my gaze from the spot and to the swings. I dusted the snow off, and sat down, swinging gently. I stared at my breath, watching it go up and to the sky, disappearing. I heard a car pull into the parking lot and I looked up, seeing Sherlock get out of the car, and walking towards me. I looked back to staring at the trees while swinging.
"Can you imagine that your breath is there, but you just can't see it until colder weather? It always blows my mind thinking about it." I said, looking up at him and he smiled. He brushed off the swing next to mine, and sat down, mimicking my movements.
"I guess I could imagine it." he said and I smiled, grabbing his index finger with mine. I continued to swing, and smile.
"We'll be alright, right?" Sherlock asked and I looked at him, tilting my head.
"Us, Des. Are we gonna be OK?" He asked, like a scared child. I laughed and nodded, grabbing his hand fully.
"Babe, it was a simple little fight. I promise we'll be OK. Better than ok, we'll be fantastic. The dynamic detective duo! The duo includes Sexy Sherlock and Deathly Destiny." I exclaimed, standing up and pulling him up with me.
"C'mon, let's go to the house." I smiled, putting my arm around his waist, and Sherlock put his arm around my shoulders.
¤¤¤"Yeah, she's still mad about those years... Well, it's understandable, Babe. We did hit her. You cracked a vase over her head... She hasn't caught on yet, luckily. I think people lied, she isn't as quick as they make her seem. It should take her over a month... Yeah, that's true too. You aren't leaving a lot of hints. Oh, I'm going to try and get that man, Sherlock Holmes, out of here. He's gonna help her and it will only be a month... Yes, of course... Ok, I love you too. Bye, Nate."
