"And you're Mrs Viner, I presume?" He asked, holding his hand out. Mrs Viner laughed and nodded.
"That I am." She said, shaking his hand.
"So, how did you know I was pregnant?" I asked, hopping up onto the counter, swinging my legs slightly.
"The way you unconsciously cover your belly when you do something. When you walked in earlier today, you almost bumped into a shelf, which made you cover your belly. And again when you pulled up and got out of the car, you leaned a bit to the back door, covering your belly so you could lean on the door as you closed yours. " She smirked, staring at me.
"OK, and how did you know that I had man?" I asked, looking to Sherlock. He had a shocked expression on his face, not expecting Mrs Viner to be one to deduce.
"Well, it was pretty obvious. There was a nice young gentleman, exactly your type, that you passed. Normally you would have stopped him, gotten his number, you know; be the college Destiny that I knew. Part of the reason why I didn't recognize you." She winked and I chuckled.
"Anything else?" I asked, and she nodded.
"You're more dressed up. Not by much, but it's obvious to those who actually observe and have known you for a long time. You could have gotten a job somewhere else, but you would make yourself blend in with your environment. You'd be wearing a blouse and skirt. Hell, even heels. Since you're not wearing any of those items, it's unlikely that you got a job somewhere else. Now the station could have told you to dress nicer, but you would have told them to shove it where the sun doesn't shine. And, since I've known you for so long, you dress quite nice for your boyfriends." Mrs Viner winked and I clapped.
"Well, I'm impressed." Sherlock said and Mrs Viner nodded.
"And what about you Mr Holmes. Destiny said that I'd enjoy you. There's obviously a reason for that. She doesn't usually say I'll like her boyfriends, but when she does. Well, I usually do." She laughed and I chuckled.
"Alright. Well, I can see that you're happily married, for at least thirty years. Your other jewelry isn't as clean as your rings, showing that your favorite pieces of jewelry is your wedding and engagement ring. Even though you've been married for a long time, it's clearly obvious that you still love your husband." He stated, and Mrs Viner nodded.
"And, how is it obvious?" She asked and Sherlock smirked.
"Your outfit. It's very nice. Too nice for working in a candy shop. I believe that you're going to meet him at a restaurant after you close up. When woman don't love their husbands, they don't dress nice for them, anymore. It's more of a, wake up and get dressed routine. But you... You've made sure to look lovely for your husband. You're wearing very little makeup, again, proving my point that you still care about your looks around Mr Viner. Your hair in a perfect half ponytail, not a hair astray. Your dress, even though it's a flowing dress, there are no creases where there shouldn't be." He finished, his hands behind his back. Mrs Viner looked at me and smiled.
"Keep this one, Destiny. He's definitely a keeper." She said, patting my hand.
"He won't be leaving anytime soon." I smiled, winking at Sherlock.
"Because, he was absolutely correct about everything." She exclaimed, walking from behind the counter and hugging him. Sherlock looked surprised, but soon hugged her back.
"So, you're not here on vacation. Solving the problems of the people at the station I presume. So, what's the mystery? Murder, kidnapping, drug bust?" She asked and I chuckled.
"Well, a kidnapping." I stated and she nodded.
"Of whom?" She asked and I looked at her, chuckling.
"Of my biological father." I stated and Mrs Viner's smile disappeared.
"Nathan? Nathan fucking Maiden?!" she asked and up nodded.
"Nathan fucking Maiden." I agreed and she looked furious.
"Go back to London. Now! " She said and I chuckled.
"Mrs Viner, I'll be fine. " I stated and she shook her head.
"No, it's not a fact that you will or will not be fine. It's a fact that he was an abusive man that decided to leave bruises on my daughter." She snarled and sighed.
"Look, I'm just worried about you, Destiny. What's to say that this man won't hit you again?" She asked and I looked at her.
"Because this time, I'm not going to let him hit me. Before he can slap me, I will be hitting him." I stated. Mrs Viner nodded.
"Good. That man and woman bring disgrace on the name, "Maiden". The only person who actually honors the family name is you." She smiled, caressing the side of my face.
"Thank you, Mrs Viner. I honored the name because it just so happens to be part of my favorite band." I laughed, making Mrs Vine softly hit my arm.
"Oh goodness. Those were the days. Did she ever tell you that she would scare half the city with her music? She'd be blasting classic rock from the moment that woman woke up, until she would fall asleep." Mrs Viner told Sherlock, laughing softly.
"But, there were a few days when she'd listen to the dance music. The kind you go to bars and clubs to listen to." Mrs Viber said, making Sherlock smirk.
"Oh?" He asked, and I looked away as he looked at me.
"So, Mrs Viner -" I was saying, but she stopped me.
"She had some wicked dance moves. I remember teaching her the moves." She laughed and I chuckled.
"Ah, before or after my poles?" I winked at her and laughed.
"I told you to decline the job!" She exclaimed and I blew on my nails, smirking. "Well, I took it. Look at what money it brought me." I said, smiling.
"And look what happened to you afterwards." I heard someone say, and I turned finding a girl a fee years younger than me.
"Mom was always bailing you out of jail. And if it wasn't her, it was Carey. Don't know why you became a cop. A detective no less."
"Cynthia, no more!" Mrs Viner said, but I held my hand up, making her hold her tongue.
"Don't they leave the drugs in the evidence room? And, don't detectives have access to the rooms? Seems a bit dangerous. Leaving an ex junkie near so many drugs." Cynthia said and I laughed.
"That changed." I said, leaning against the counter.
"Has it? Has it really?" She asked, walking up to me and I nodded.
"I'll piss in a bottle if you want. You can have it tested. I'd show you the inside of my elbows, but you know what you'll find. The scars of needles. You'll also criticize me for the scars since you'll find old needle marks. No new ones. I've been clean for five years. The only thing I abuse is cigarettes." I stated calmly, making Cynthia make a disgusted face.
"You could be dirty for all I care. You put this family through Hell, and you expect my mother to help you." She said, but I tilted my head.
"Wouldn't you love that? The only time I'd ask Mrs Viner for help would be to reteach you your manners. You're still the ignorant little shit you always were. Funny seeing others grow up, and you're still the little 6 year old. " I taunted and smirked at my success. Cynthia rolled her eyes and walked away.
"She's just mad about the incidents, Des." Mrs Viner said and I nodded, watching Cynthia go to the back room.
"I know. I would apologize, but we both know that wouldn't work." I stated, running around and smiling softly at Mrs Viner.
"I'll need to visit again, Mrs Viner. Before I leave I'll come by. Have a wonderful date. And do tell Mr Viner that I give my greetings and love." I said and kissed her cheek.
"Will do, Des. And it was lovely to meet you, Sherlock. Take care of her, or I will kick your ass." She said, kissing Sherlock's cheek.
"Will do, Mrs Viner. It was a pleasure to meet you too." He smiled and he started to guide me to the door. He opened it and I stepped out to the cold world. I let out a sigh, watching my breath swirl to the sky. My phone started to ring and I pulled it from my pocket, going to the car. I swiped the bubble and put the phone to my ear.
"Hello?" I answered, opening the car door after Sherlock unlocked it.
"Des, I have some info on Nathan!"
