I woke up at four in the morning, staring at the back of the couch. I sat up and rubbed my eyes, leaning against the couch.
"Life wrecker. That's a good one." I chuckled to myself, standing up and grabbing my phone, unplugging the charger and putting it into my suitcase.
I found a missed call from Mary, and dialled her number, grabbing one of Sherlock's cigarettes, not caring if he'd get mad at me. I dug through my bag and found my lighter.
"Hey, Des. Sorry if I woke you, I forgot there's a five hour difference." Mary greeted and I chuckled, sticking the cigarette behind my ear.
"It's all good, and besides, you called me close to an hour ago. You didn't wake me. Just nightmares." I quietly told her as I went to the front door, unlocking both locks and went outside, closing the door and siting on the stairs.
"Wanna talk about it?" She asked as I grabbed the cigarette and placed it in the corner of my mouth so I could talk for a moment.
"Nah, it's all good." I said as I clicked the lighter and lit the cigarette, taking a long drag.
"You sure? John's out of the house and I can talk about anything, really." she said and I laughed, putting the cigarette between my index and middle finger.
"Yeah, I am positive. So, what have you been up to?" I asked, taking another drag and she chuckled.
"Preparing for your arrival. That's what I've been doing."
I smiled and shook my head.
"Did you make me a cake?" I asked like a five year old.
"Actually yes. And for your next question, yes. It's all chocolate. I know you despise vanilla." she laughed and I immediately got excited.
"Mary, you are such a life saver. I need chocolate in my life right now. I ate all of my red velvet cake, and chocolate just sounds good right about now."
"Too bad you still have seven hours until you get your cake." I grunted as I took a drag and blew out the smoke.
"Yeah. A seven hour flight with a man that despises me. He and I were a thing, now we're not... Yeah, that's not gonna get awkward." I stated and she sighed and I could see her shaking her head, a solemn look on her face.
"Maybe it won't be so bad." she said and I chuckled, shaking my head.
"Mary, Sherlock isn't going to be all fine and dandy on a seven hour flight. He won't forget what I've done to him, and he won't forget the fact that he was six months away from being a father. Tell me it won't be awkward." I softly told her, looking at the sky.
"You're right. But, you need to grow up. The both of you. Don't play "you won't talk to me so I won't talk to you". Or that stupid invisible crap. Acting like neither of you are there." she warned and I rolled my eyes.
"Oh yes, so I'll go and be like, "Oh, hey Sherlock. How have you been? Do you by any chance still hate me?!". How does that sound, Mary? That sound like a good conversation starter?"
"Don't you dare, Destiny. Don't you dare talk to me in that tone of voice, because I've been over here worried about your arse. You were shot for god's sake! I'm trying to cheer you up by making you a cake!" she complained and I let out a soft laugh.
"You're right. I'm sorry. It's just, he won't want to talk to me. The only time he will is to go into my apartment and grab his stuff or to deliver my stuff. Even then he probably won't want to deal with me." I said as I flicked the end of the cigarette, letting the ash fall. I brought the filter up to my lips and took another lungful of smoke then slowly letting it out through my nose.
"I don't know how I'm gonna get over him, Mary. I really don't. I know I was a whore, I know that what I did was no where near right. But, how am I going to survive the stress? The depression and anxiety?" Mary was silent for a moment, thinking of a reply.
"I'm not going to lie to you, Des and say that everything will be fine and everything will be back to normal before you even know it. You know, the cliche crap that you hate." she said and I laughed, taking the last drag from the cigarette.
"But, you'll need your time alone. You'll need to think it through, and you'll give yourself crap about being the worst girlfriend and doing this wrong and scolding yourself that you could have been better. You'll be Destiny in no time."
"And who am I now?"
"You're a stranger." she said and I closed my eyes, wiping the fallen tears.
"So, when you get back, I'd like you to meet a great friend of mine. She's a great woman, I think you'll enjoy her." she said and I chuckled, nodding
"I'm sure I will. The question is though, will she enjoy me?" I asked and Mary chuckled.
"I think she will. Maybe at first, she'll be weary of you, but after awhile of warming up she'll be the best friend you could ever have."
I smiled as I watched the sky get lighter.
"That'll be amusing. Well, I'm gonna get going. Take an early morning jog, tire myself out for the flight." I said, running a hand through my hair.
"Alright, you have a great day, Honey. I'll see you later today. At, what time?" she asked and I pulled my phone away from my ear, the screen lighting up and I looked at the time.
"Well, I think we were leaving at nine. But I think Sherlock's made plans to leave earlier. So, I don't know. Maybe soon. Christ, seven hours of sitting on my ass. That's gonna be fun." I stated, stubbing out the cigarette.
"Oh, you'll have loads of fun. You'll just sleep the whole goddamned way!" she exclaimed and I laughed, nodding my head.
"Yeah I will. And if not, I'll probably just think. Listen to music or something. " I stated as I heard the door open behind me.
"OK, message me before you leave so I know to start decorating."
"You've baked me a cake but you haven't decorated yet?!" I exclaimed and Mary hummed in response
"It's nine in the morning where I am, Love. Too early to be decorating." she said and I chuckled, nodding my head and moving over on the step so Sherlock could walk past me.
"Amen to that. Too early to do anything. OK, so, when I get back you better have your wedding binder out with all of your unmade decisions and that cake better be sliced up so I can eat it while helping you." I planned out, Mary laughing but agreeing.
"I'll see you when you get here. Love you." she said and I smiled.
"I love you too, Mary. I'll see you later." I chuckled and said goodbye then hung up, putting my phone in my pocket.
I rubbed my face then pushed my fingers through my hair.
"This is gonna be like school. Seven hours of boredom." I mumbled as I thought of the flight.
