A New Day

I awoke to the sound of giggling coming outside on the beach, causing me to groan and roll over to look out the window, though this only made me smile because Madi and Lane where frolicking by the water.

Sighing I got to my feet and walked toward the closet, quickly pulling on one of Lane's oversized band shirts and a pair of her ball shorts before heading downstairs.

"Breakfast's On the table!" Rune called from somewhere in the house.

I chuckled as I walked into the massive kitchen, kind of in awe about everything.

"Just how the hell do you guys know about all of these things?"

I asked, earning a chuckle.

"You really do know nothing about the magic that surrounds us do you?"

Rune retorted earning a sigh from me.

"Hello, just woke up as some freak shortly after meeting Lane." 

I retorted, earning a laugh.

"Fair enough." 

she retorted before adding 

"as you've noticed you were born with a different gene than most of humanity....that gene is a form of mutation which is brought out by a sensitivity to the energies of the world around us. Some change form, some control fire, some drink blood but frankly we're all the same." 

Rune began, only to pause to glance down at my arm.

"But the ones with the Alpha strands are much different...More powerful."

she continued

"The alpha's can open the spirit portal and do things that is even unheard of...Including healing the venom of true creatures of the night." 

this confused me.

"Venom?"

I questioned around the piece of toast I was eating.

"Yes. You see the children of the night....or Luna or whatever the hell you want to call them pack a potent venom that can kill a mere human in an instant....Lane was able to save the kid because she had imprinted on you. hell if you just spoke a command with the right will we'd all have to obey it or it would feel like fire consuming us!" 

Frankly I didn't like where this was going. I had no intent on hurting anyone, let alone my girlfriend or anyone else.

"earth to Alice, are you listening?"

Rune snapped me out of my thoughts by saying this.

"Huh, sorry just thinking."

I stated, earning a chuckle.

"Like I was saying, if you have the spirit of a beast inside you...or that gene and you are cursed the magic that appears naturally will overtake the magic that is taken or given." she continued whatever it was that she was saying, reminding me of Lane's sister.

"But how is this all possible?"

 I questioned aloud, earning a shrug.

"No body knows. The native Americans said that it came from the creator, pagans believe one thing, it just depends on who you ask." 

she retorted before adding as she got up and walked over to the fridge 

"As for me, I think that it's a gift that only the lucky ones possess."
