When I woke up I was overwhelmed by the scent of Bacon frying somewhere elsewhere in the house then I looked over at Lane's still sleeping figure that Madi was curled up against, I couldn't help but smile at the sight of this.
However then a pair of golden eyes flashed open, meeting my gaze with a gentle look.
"morning." she muttered as she glanced at the sleeping child that lay between us.
"Well look at that....seems like she's found our presence calming." the butch stated with a small smirk as she gently brushed the hair out of the sleeping child's face.
"I found it surprising that you were good with kids." I stated and she grinned.
"Actually I use to have a little sister. I don't know why I wouldn't be good with kids." Lane’s gentle tone retorted as a look of longing came over her face as an unbearable longing crushed my soul out of nowhere.
“What happened?” I asked softly as I reached over and took her hand into mine, interlocking our fingers. My nerves shuddered at her warm touch, sending a strange warmth throughout my body.
“When my parents found out I was gay they kicked me out.” She admitted then added in the same heartrending tone “that was the night I found out that I was a werewolf. I was so angry and upset I just changed.”
A single tears trailed down her tanned face before she wiped away the moister and then added “But at least I can make sure this little girl will have a good home.”
The softness returned to the butch’s voice as her molten gold eyes glanced down at the slumbering girl who was still connected to Lane’s shirt.
However then I heard a loud crack from somewhere else, causing me to jump.
“Oh you hear that too?” She asked with a snicker as she glanced toward the window before adding “Danny was going to cut an old dead tree a little way up the hill.”
I couldn’t believe what I had heard, that sounded like it was just outside! Lane must have noticed that because she chuckled
“Welcome to the pack.”
Her words sent a small shiver down my spine as I absorbed the words. I was now a part of their world, even their family.
As I lay there, listening to Lane’s words repeating in my head I felt the bed shift as Madi sat up suddenly.
“Morning kid.” Lane stated as the young girl yawned slightly before saying
“S….sorry for last night.”
Lane only chuckled then retorted “Hey now, you have no reason for being sorry.” Lane stated then added “come on, Sarah has breakfast done.”
When she said it dawned on me what I had smelled.
