I tried to ignore the disgusted looks we got from some people as we walked down the hallway hand in hand. But then again what should I have expected in a small town like this? rolling my eyes I leaned into Lane's side, earning a smirk from her.
"Aren't you getting brave?" she whispered, her body shaking with a silent chuckle.
"Get a room!" Derek Compton called from where he was making out against the wall.
"Quod arca sit tanquam saxa." Lane whispered to me in the language of wolves which was equivalent to saying that he was as dumb as a box of rocks.
"Etiam." I agreed in the same tongue, earning odd looks from everyone around us.
Not many knew the language nor would many learn it. My own mother had forbidden it's use for some odd reason though I didn't know why at the time and it had pushed me once again away from her and back into the comfort of Lane's home.
School went by smoothly, only a few rude comments and hateful looks though most looked at me in shock not due to who I was holding hands with but the bulkiness of my body because over the last few months my beast like genes had kicked in and I now had the body of a trained athlete plus now my eyes were honey amber.
"Did you see Mrs. Quin's face when we walked in holding hands?" Lane snickered as we drove home at three.
"Yeah, I thought the old Crone was going to shit herself." I retorted, earning a laugh from everyone else that was piled in Rune's bright yellow minivan.
"Haec canis deberet." Donica laughed, earning an eye roll from everyone in the van.
it was obvious that none of us liked her but insulting her and saying that she deserved to shit on herself was another thing, even though we all agreed that Quin was a bitch.
"Okay...we better get back home so when the kids come home we don't have to listen to Maria bitch about sitting outside for five minutes." I stated, earning a groan from everyone else as I reminded them of the time we had spent too much time in the grocery store and had done just that.
