POV Sierra

I woke up to a thunderstorm, it was great. It only being 6 am and the fact that I didn’t have to get up for a hour made me feel happy. I looked around my room from my bed. My mom had finally let me paint it a decent color, this house was old, because my room had yellow, flower daisy wallpaper, talk about tacky. So now it was a dark violet, with my stuff everywhere.

My house was the biggest house in Dallas, Georgia. I hated it, my dad was American, my mom Canadian so I was both. My dad was the owner of the biggest incorporation in the states and my mom owned a shop downtown in Dallas. So I lived the furthest away from anyone, miles and miles of land.

It was a rainy, dreary Thursday morning, only 1 more sleep until my date with Derek. My heart skipped a beat just when I thought of his name, what was wrong with me? As soon as my parents told me that I was moving to the States, I vowed I wouldn’t fall in love with no one so I could go back home as soon as I turned 18. Me being 16, I had a good 2 years to wait. So I’m pretty sure there goes my plan.

I grunted while sitting up slowly. I could hear footsteps going down the hallway, probably my dad. I stretched and got out of bed. I made my way to the kitchen and found my dad drinking a glass of milk. “Morning daddy,” I said and kissed his cheek.

“Morning Sierra, how was your sleep?”

“Not long enough, anyway, I had a good one I guess, except that thunderstorm woke me up.”

“I know, it was magnificent, I watched it from bed. I was working on my laptop so it didn’t wake me up,” my dad yawned sitting on the stool at the island.

“Dad, I made a friend yesterday.”

“See, Hun, I knew you would make friends in no time. What’s her name?”

“Well, you see dad, her is a he,” I said while getting a glass of water.

“Sierra, really? Your going to put me through this again?”

“Dad, he was nice, I just talked to him. I’m not dating him or anything, don’t worry. He just wants to hang out with me tomorrow. But I know, you want to meet him, I have no idea what we are doing so I’ll probably know for sure tomorrow morning.”

“Your mom will want to meet him.”

“Oh yeah, that’s all mom, dad,” I sighed and laughed, “plus I need to make friends as you said before.”

“I knew those words would come against me one day, they always do.”

“Daddy, I’m going to make more friends, for your sake girls. But still, you should be happy.”

“Happy about what?” My mom asked while coming into the kitchen. She looked exactly like me, I had her red hair, green eyes and her height. I was average but not short, thank God.

“Sierra made a new friend,” my dad chirped sarcastically.

“What’s her name?” My mom asked.

“She’s not a she mom, dad will catch you up. I have to get ready for school,” I mumbled and walked away. Stomping up the stairs, I could hear the rain dripping on the roof, it was a nice sound but slightly annoying. I strolled into my room and took a deep breath. I managed to get away from a huge conversation, between sex, protection and what not. Could guys and girls not be friends without having the sex talk? Apparently not with my parents.
