(its in the normal 'you' POV, does that make sense...? hopefully.)

"What the hell is that?" Ben says as he looks off in the distance. You two had been together for at least a week and you were still adjusting to his weird habits.

He would quirk his head like a dog would if it saw a squirrel at random times, and you brushed it off each time. He would also always take watch while you slept, claiming that he didn't sleep. You never knew why until you saw these things on his neck, although you didn't want to ask. You had seen them before on another teen a while back, all she said was that she got captured by the aliens and didn't want to say anything else since it was too traumatic for her.

"What was what?" You asked. He didn't answer as he kept looking around and suddenly his breath became shallow. You looked around also, but you saw and heard nothing.

"Come on." He said quietly, grabbing your arm and pulling you along. "Ben-" He shushed you. "What is going on?" You asked, hardly above a whisper.

Every time this happened, you only did as he said. He was extremely stubborn, so you simply listened and hoped he'd explain these weird outbursts soon.

"Just hush and hurry up." He whispers, beginning to run and still pulling you along. You ran next to him, both of your hands entangled with each others.

You both went out past the tree line and Ben made a beeline for a supermarket and went inside, pushing a shelf in front of the doors. "Go, go, go!" He whispered urgently, motioning towards the back of the store.

Once you were both in the back of the supermarket where only the workers - when there was workers here - would go, he sighed in relief. "What the hell, Ben?" You asked, throwing your hands in the air from mild frustration.

"What?" He asked innocently, occasionally looking out of the little window of the door.

"You had to know I'd ask about why you act like this eventually!" You yell. He cupped his hand around your mouth and pushed you against the wall.

"I will explain if you promise to stay quiet. Can you do that?" You nod and he removed his hand and backed off of you, sighing.

"I'd assume that you've seen the spikes by now?" He pointed to the back of his neck. You nodded. "Yeah, well its from when I got kidnapped by the aliens towards the beginning of the invasion. They put this parasite thing on my back and when it got cut off of me, it didn't completely come off." He explained and you stood quiet, knowing he wasn't done.

"The pieces that are still there give me these weird abilities, like being able to run fast, or strength, hearing; that kind of thing. I can also sense when aliens get close so yeah, I bug out sometimes and just then I could tell that there was at least two mechs and half a dozen skitters heading straight to where we were." He sighs and runs his fingers through his hair.

You were still processing what he said and remained silent, not knowing what you should say. "Great." He mutters. "You probably think in a freak like everyone else." You furrowed your eyebrows.

"People think you're a freak for getting kidnapped and mind controlled beyond your freewill?" You ask.

"Pretty much." He says softly.

"Well I don't think you're a freak." You assure and he gives you a soft smile. "Stubborn and bossy, however..." He scoffs.

"I'm not bossy, I'm simply trying not to get us killed." He points out.

He quirked his head yet again, widening his eyes and grabs you, forcing you both to run into a supply closet. He put a hand over your mouth, "If there was ever a time for you to shut your mouth, it would be now." He whispered in your ear as you sat on his lap on the floor. Your back was against him and you could hear the disgusting noise of a few skitters and feel the ground shake. You figured a mech was walking by and you couldn't help but feel your heart race.

Ben whispered soothing things in your ear that helped calm you down. He eventually took his hand off of your mouth and you turned a bit so you could face him. After staring at each other, you both leaned in slightly and you quickly buried your face in his neck when you heard a box crash nearby.

"Shh, its okay, (Y/n)." He whispered softly as he wrapped his arms around you. You could feel Ben's heartbeat on your cheek, it was quick and uneven.

What you didn't know was that it wasn't because of the skitters.
