Look Me In The Eyes

Prologue

...he loves me, he loves me not...

I thought in my head as I plucked each velvety red petal out of the flower. Each time I pulled a petal saying "he loves me" my heart started beating faster at the possible thought along with the effortless grin that found it's way upon my lips. But everytime I plucked a petal thinking "he loves me not", the possibility caused a pang of sadness in my chest.

Look at me? I'm such a mess, depending on roses for an answer. Ugh. I slammed my fist in my desk in frustration withba loud thud.

"Rose? Is that you? WHY Are you awake? It's a school night!" my sister called.

I sighed and walked out of my room to make up some excuse to my sister. but before I did I paused in the doorframe. I looked longingly over my shoulder at the half plucked rose on my bed. I guess I'll never know.

********Mystery Pov************

I looked through the Window to see her room empty. She was awake. As I began to climb down the tall tree, something red caught my eye. It was on her bed. I swept In through the window full of curiosity. A rose with only half of the petals still on was lying on her bed along with a small pile of crimson petals.

The only thing that came to mind about petals was so cliche. In movies, one of the characters is always plucking each n every petal off thinking "loves me, loves me not". Might as well have some fun. Before I knew it only 3 petals were left and the rose lost all it's beauty. Third last petal, ...loves me, second last petal... loves me not. I gasped.

Loves me?! I thought as I held the last petal, feeling the texture of it's fuzzy skin. It seemed almost sacred.

Shoot! What am I still doing here? She could get back any second. I tucked the petal in my hand and jumped out the window catching the branch with ease. Once I stabled myself and made sure my action went unnoticed, I opened my hand to reveal the wrinkled bright rose petal lying on my palm.

...Loves me?

Nahhh..
