Recap

"This is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me. Even though you may not have fixed it you still asked Mick to do it. Who knows what he said to you." She smiled sweetly at me. I scoffed on the inside at my head at the comment about Mick. That’s for sure.

I never knew that different people had different ways of saying thank you. Rose must really be unique because she caught me off guard as she stretched up on her tippy toes and pressed her soft lips to my cheek for only a few seconds. My eyes widened and I stood frozen in place. She pulled back with surprised eyes, as if shocked that she actually did that. Her cheeks turned crimson red as she ran inside her house.

Here I was standing, my feet frozen to the ground. Puzzled by what just happened. Then the least expected thing possible in the world, no in the universe, happened...

I, the arrogant, cocky, and emotionless Ryan Fredricks, blushed.

Chapter 16

Rose’s POV

I stared at the large, round, and brown pancake in front of me. Then, my thoughts just had a mind of their own. The brown was just like the color of the highlights in Rex’s hair in the sun. The strawberries resting on top reminded me of his smirking lips. I cheeks flushed with warmth as I recalled what I did yesterday. I can’t believe I pecked him on the cheek. It was a spur of the moment kind of thing. In fact I don’t even know what had gotten into me. A painful high sounding ‘EEEEP’ interrupted my thoughts.

Who is it Rose?” my mom grinned at me. I rolled my eyes. It still surprised me that my mom was more then 20 years older than me yet managed to act my age.

“Huh, um what are you talking about?” I tried to cover as best as I could. But I couldn't control my body now can I? Curse my stupid cheeks!

“You’re blushing! You can’t lie to me!”

"Mom!" I groaned. She laughed and took a seat in front of me and handed me a glass of orange juice. OJ! I screamed mentally and eagerly took a sip. As I gulped down the sweet and tangy goodness, I watched my mom out of the corner of my eye as she ticked off her fingers, mumbling to herself.

"It's not Mick, so then it's ..." My mom glanced towards me with smile so big it was as if she had won the jackpot.

"It's that young man that took you to the Spring Fling? Right?" My eyes widened as big as saucers and I yanked the glass out of my mouth quickly. The juice went down my airway and caused me to choke. Not to mention turn red from lack of oxygen.

"Where" cough. "did you get" choke. "that idea?" cough. She just smiled at me slyly as I choked my lungs out.

"Why'd you get so flustered? Hmm? That means I'm right!" She pumped her fist in the air. With her being an attorney, wearing black slacks and a white button down shirt, that fist pumping adolescent image just didn't fit. She tapped a red painted finger on her chin in thought.
