Chapter 5

 Ryan's POV

So many things were running through my mind as I heard the buzz of the highway. We were on our way home from the "incident" at the grocery store. The car beginning to smell like marinara sauce. I was Still slightly covered in tomato sauce.

I hate tomatoes.

 **Flashback**

I managed to get myself and Jerry out of the way of the colossal cans tumbling down and landed on the tile floor with a thud, face first. I felt something slip off my face. When the loud banging and rumbling stopped,I opened my eyes to check out the place. And I looked to see tomato splotched Jerry. He reached for my face and stroked it. What the heck!

"Ryan!! Your shades!" Jerry yelled. I stiffened and understood his action I fingered around for them, keeping my face low and out of sight.

My eyes burst open but I quickly covered them in case anyone was nearby.Where are they!

Before I did though, I got a glimpse of the look on Rose's face. She had her pink lips slightly open as she gasped, her eyebrows raised. Her liquid amber eyes were wide and full of confusion She was staring at me, her expression full of different emotions.

Embarrassment, curiosity, wonder, fear. I wanted so badly to know what's on her mind. What she was thinking at the moment.

My hand moved up a little, I had the sudden urge to reach out and tuck in that stray piece of bronze hair that was flying out. Could she-

Whoa! SNAP OUT OF IT RYAN! Don't get your hopes high. But why was she looking at me like that. Then i looked down at me to see my hands sightly covering my face and remembered my intention.

MY SHADES. I panicked again until i finally found them lying next to the feet of Mick and Rose. I slipped them on and stood up to face the rest of the tomato splashed crew and act like I didn't almost ruin my chance at living a normal life.

**flashback over **

That was way too close. I slammed my fist against the steering wheel, gritting my teeth together.

 Ugh I'm such an idiot.

"Dude, what's your boxers in a bunch?" Jerry asked from the passenger seat.

I gave him an "Are you serious?" look.

"Oh lemme guess? You still hyped up about that whole glasses incident.?" he said. I

could hear the smirk in his voice.

"Heck Yeah! They freaking fell off!" I said, my anger returning.

"So?" Jerry said shrugging his shoulders.

I was so angry that it was dangerous. I aggressively pulled over and turned to face him. My fists were clenched on the steering wheel so tightly, my knuckles were white.

"DO YOU KNOW WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF SHE LOOKED IN MY EYES? DO

YOU EVEN CARE?" I bellowed. My blood boiling. Jerrys amused grin fell of his face.

"WELL AT LEAST YOU CAN LOOK IN SOMEONES EYES! Ever thought about

THAT?" Jerry screamed back at me. We both turned away from each other. And let out a huff of anger. Too angry to form words.

I took a deep breath. What am I doing taking out my frustration on the

one person I can actually trust?

For a few seconds all we heard was the passing cars and beeps.

I sighed and turned to look at him. "I'm sorry,...I just lost my cool."

"I'm sorry too. I didn't mean anything I said." he said, finally facing my way.

"I just didn't want another one. We just moved here, to get away from our old home. That was the reason why I had to leave!" I told him

"I know man. I won't let it happen again. I promise. Soon, it'll be just like old times."Jerry promised me putting a hand on his heart.

My eyes went back on the road again. One thought still on my mind.

"Spit it out Fredricks" Jerry said

I gave a small smile. God he may be blind, but he has a sixth sense or something.

"Do you think she saw ?" I mumbled.

"Your eyes?" I rolled my eyes at his answer.

"No, my 'I love Mom' tattoo" I said my voice full of sarcasm. "Yes! My eyes, Jerry!"

"Just makin sure" he said putting his hands up.

 "Well do you?" I pressed.

"Naww. What makes you say that though?" his eyebrow raised, touching his sandy brown bangs.

"No reason." I said trying to seem indifferent. He raised his eyebrow. I sighed and ran a hand through my tomato chunk infested hair.

"When I opened my eyes, I turned away immediately. But I still got a quick look at her face. She was very close. But she was looking at me with an expression I've never seen before. It was full of so many different emotions. Especially curiosity. It made me nervous." I admitted.

"Dude, I dont know. I'm blind. I can't hear or feel her looking at you." he reminded me.

" She definitely did! Why else would she look at me like that? Now we have to move again! She's gonna be like all the others that looked into these cursed things." I said getting angry again.

"Shes gonna talk to me all the time and annoy the life out of me and be just like the rest of them. We didn't even finish unpacking, yet for Lords sake!!" I groaned. Jerry gave me a look.

"Ryan, you don't know that for sure. Stop being a pessimist! Just go to school on Monday, and well both find out. Okay bro?"

I half nodded, giving in. I wish that day last year never happened. Then I would have never have to be on guard all the time, never have to worry about meeting someone. Never have to worry about it happening all over again. Never have to worry about whether I'll ever find someone.

Roses POV

No matter how many times I rubbed my eyes or blinked it was always the same scene.

About 80 cans and can fragments lying around the are. And lots and lots of them exploded or ripped on their tumble. Which is why there were random red splotches and chunky puddles scattered across the aisle and the one next to it. It looked as if a giant tomato had erupted.  It was quite funny and silly if you thought about it. Unless you were here being chased by heavy hard metal cans.

Thank god no one was hurt. My fist clenched as I though about who did this. I need  to have a little chat with that Kim. Ugh. I worked so hard stacking up that pyramid of tomato cans. I have no idea what that acrylic nailed beast has against me but I'm not gonna let this 'slide'.

Mickey, his spanking brand new uniform stained with the horrid fruit, handed me a mop identical to the one in his hand and i began to clean up the mess along with 5 other employees. Poor Mickey, He has to clean up this huge mess that smells like vinegar and ketchup while covered in tomato chunks on his first day of work. I began mopping up the red juice and puree and recapped everything in my head. I stopped at the one scene that had my on the edge. The anticipation in my heart was swelling at the thought of me finally seeing, finally knowing whats up with the lenses shielding his eyes from the rest of the world. I thought it 'd be no biggie that they fell off, but I was proved wrong at Jerry's frantic yell and Ryan's sudden panic search..

I can't beleive I was that close. If only i had looked sooner.
