"We need to get to class, Luke. Are you gunna eat those?" Michael pointed to Luke's fries and as usual, Luke pushed them over to him.
Luke really didn't eat a lot in school, two meals a day and some snacks at home so he was nowhere near an eating disorder though. He just really disliked eating in school where everybody could see the portions he was eating and what he chose to eat so he avoided it completely.
He'd nip and pick at food until it was time for music class and then Michael would ask for the rest of his food and then eat it as they walked to music together. Luke didn't really understand why Michael still asked really.
They both walked side by side down the usual halls until they reached their classes. Luke smiled at Michael as he put his hand on the door, seeing Michael smile back as he pushed it open.
Luke greeted his teacher like usual, then went over to get his guitar. Just as he was about to pick the acoustic from the wall, his teacher spoke loudly.
"We're doing something different today." Luke brought his hand down to his side, turning around to face the teacher like everybody else.
The classroom door opened as she opened her mouth, Michael walking inside and laughing with a girl. Luke hid his grin with his hand as Michael cut off his laugh, looking around the silent classroom with a sheepish expression.
"Anyway, we're putting you into groups of 4," she looked towards Michael and the girl, "hense this pair."
She went on to explain the task, how they were going to write a song and the music for it as a band, then perform it to the other class as well as their own. Luke was actually pretty excited. They all had to group with people who knew different instruments so she had already chosen the groups for them.
She called out the first group and neither Luke nor Michael were in it. Luke noticed the girl wink at Michael as she was called, walking over to 3 people in Luke's class who were all sat together anyway.
"The remaining four, you can go into a practice room." Luke got up, walking over to Michael. Michael linked his arm with his best friends and then lead them both out of the room, two other people following behind them both.
The four of them walked into the closest practice room, the door closing behind them and only then Luke noticed that the jock was in their group. A girl from his class was also in the group, she played drums and Luke had spoken to her once about Blink 182.
"So who's singing?" The girl asked, glancing at Michael for a while longer because she didn't know what instrument he played. Maybe he was singing.
"I play guitar." Michael stated. He looked to his left, seeing the jock grimacing at the three of them.
"Bass." Luke felt his throat dry up. The teacher was not making him sing, no way. He knew the girl couldn't sing and play drums at the same time, no matter how beautiful her voice was.
"Drums." The girl stated, telling Luke what he already knew.
"You're singing?" Michael asked him in surprise. Luke shook his head quickly.
"I didn't agree to it." Michael nodded, knowing Luke didn't want to but fuck, Michael can't sing for shit. His voice is too raspy and just won't work.
"I'll go grab an acoustic and a drum." The girl stated and left the room. Luke knew he'd probably have to sing for the group and he really wasn't looking forward to it.
Maybe he'd feel better if the horrible tan jock wasn't in the room with them, but he's part of the band and Luke can't just ask him to leave.
The three boys were left in awkward silence as the girl wasn't in the room. The tan jock was looking at his phone, Luke was counting the lines in the flooring and Michael was watching Luke with worried eyes.
She came back 5 minutes later, handing Michael an acoustic guitar and Calum a shaker just to have something if he wanted to use it. She had a small acoustic drum and sat on the floor, leaning it between her legs and looking at the boys.
"You know Blink pretty boy?" The girl asked Michael with a smirk. Michael grinned at her, winking and nodding. He heard the jock scoff from beside him but ignored it.
"You?" The girl asked Calum to which he looked up from his phone and nodded.
"Then let's play I miss you, a warm up exercise or something." Michael hummed, starting to tune his guitar. Luke went through the lyrics in his head and Calum was too busy looking through his phone to care what they were all doing.
Only when the girl opened with a drum beat did Calum look up, locking eyes with Luke's and seeing him cower away, and then look at the girl nervously. He sighed.
"I can sing the verses if it makes you feel better. I'm shit at it though." Luke nodded, not making any eye contact with the jock and in shock because he was actually doing something nice for a change.
The girl started again, doing the same beat and when the guitar came in Luke looked up at Calum.
"Hello there, the angel from my nightmare..." Calum started to sing and he wasn't as shit as he let on. Luke was considering letting the jock sing the whole thing because he had the voice for it. Soon, Calum stopped singing, and caught eyes with Luke. Luke looked down quickly and then realized that he was supposed to be singing, and that's why the jock looked at him.
Michael and the girl were too busy flirting with facial expressions to notice the uncomfortable tension.
"Don't waste, your time, on me..." Luke's voice was always the loudest when he sang, trying to get all emotions across. It didn't take Michael nor the girl by surprise, they'd both heard him sing before. Luke noticed the jock jump in surprise though, and he failed to lower the volume of his voice without it sounding worse.
Michael harmonized with him and the song actually didn't sound half bad. They agreed to leave it at that for now, having a while to do the project anyway. They went back to their music class, seeing the other group done too and the teacher let them out early so they could go home.
