6) Understanding

Saito-

"You're an idiot," Luna smacked his arm. "You were so busy helping that girl that you overlooked how miserable Claire was becoming. I had to tell some of the clan members to shut up."

Saito sighed. "I didn't know." He has been busy with Lucy and the farm.

Saito hated how he felt right now. He feels miserable. Claire left him last night. He didn't know where she went, but Luna received a call last night. Claire is with Demitri.

Something happens, and she's there recovering. Luna didn't tell him until this morning. So now he's waiting for Taylor to come and get him. Luna can't go; she doesn't want to see the house yet.

'Your fault,' Sai said. 'I did tell you to let Dale handle Lucy's situation. Or let Lilly handle it. But did you listen? No.'

He ignores Sai. He doesn't need to hear him. Saito already knows what he did.

'Claim her,' Sai suggested. 'Don't hesitate and claim her. It's the only way for the bond to strengthen. I understand there is some doubt. But we are going to lose her if you keep doubting her.'

Maybe he should. Saito has been avoiding sex. He's been having doubts about Claire. She's an angel sent to kill Luna. And she's hiding a secret with Luna.

"Ready?" Taylor showed up with Sapphire and a suitcase. "I'm taking care of Sapphire. Sarah is busy with classes. It'll be fun."

Sapphire giggled.

"Good luck," Luna smirked.

Saito groaned.

He picked up his suitcase. He isn't sure how long he'll be gone. Luna didn't say much about what was wrong with Claire. But she said not to lose control. That's worrisome.

"Remember, Dale is in charge," Saito said.

"Go," Luna said. "Our father is here too. The clan is in good hands."

He nodded.

Taylor teleported them inside a house. Not Demitri's. He set the suitcase down and looked around.

"Where are we?" Saito asked.

"Oh, he's here," Denny looked at him annoyingly. "Nice of you to show up."

Saito gets the feeling Denny is angry at him. Does everyone know about his big mistake?

"Where's Claire?"

"Before you see her," Demitri came out of the kitchen holding Leon. "There is something you must know about Claire." He set Leon on the playpen. Sapphire squealed and reached for Leon; Taylor had to set her down.

"What's wrong?" He asked. "Just tell me."

Demitri sighed. "Never mind, she can tell you when she wakes up. I forgot it's not something I can tell you. Just don't go on a rampage."

Saito was getting angry. "Just take me to her."

Demitri leads him down the hall to a guest bedroom. Inside, he didn't just find Claire, but another man. A demon with red hair and pearly white eyes—Skyler, this must be Claire's friend.

Skyler looked up from where he sat. He stood and winced. Was he injured?

He looks at Claire. She had bandages on her face. He walks over and pulls the blanket off. Sai almost came out. Claire was bandaged from head to toe. Seeing her like this is sending him in fits of rage.

He growled. "Who did this to Claire? Was it these two angels she encountered?"

"No," Skyler held his side. "It was her father."
