21) Breaking

Claire-

It hurts so much. Claire's body aches and her chest hurts. Her eye throbs; she's hurting all over.

She blinks open her good eye. She slowly started to remember what had happened. Dom. That's the male voice. The jerk!

"Claire?"

She looks up. Sam. She groaned.

"Wow, the disappointment in your eye," Sam chuckled. "What? Were you expecting Saito?"

She nodded.

"Senna went into labor," Sam said. "It was an agonizing birth. Everyone thought Senna was going to die with the baby. It turns out the boy's wings were stuck. They were a little bigger. Savannah had to use magic to block his demon form and pop. He came out."

"How long have I been asleep for?" She asked.

"You have been asleep for a week," Sam said. "Senna gave birth a week ago. Saito has been coming back and forth. But he should finally be home."

She sighed. "A week."

She tried to sit up, but she felt sore and stiff. She flopped back on the pillows and sighed. "I didn't pee on the bed, did I?"

"No," Sam said. "Savannah inserted a small tube; it's still in there. Wait until the doctor comes and takes it out."

She groaned.

"Gina is dead," he said.

"It was Dom," she stared at the ceiling. "He wanted me to return to heaven."

"Xavier suspected," Sam said.

Claire sighed.

Claire!" Saito entered. "Sai, let me know you have awakened." He was by her side, kissing her. She smiled.

"I'm fine," she kissed him back. "A little stiff and sore, but I'm alive."

"I'll go tell Xavier and Erick," Sam gave them privacy.

Saito kissed her hands. "You had me worried."

"I'm sorry," she tried to sit up, he helped her. "I didn't know Gina had escaped. She only got me because of those magic poisonous knives and the weather. Gina wasn't alone; my supposed fiancé, Dom, was there with another woman. A demon. The female demon wanted to leave because she didn't want to be caught by Taylor."

Saito groaned. "Tammy, it must be her. She's a dangerous woman. I'll let Taylor know she's back."

Claire hugged him tightly and kissed him again. "I was afraid you would be angry."

"I am," he said. "But I come to understand danger will always follow you. I can't stop you from wandering; I know you can't stay still. But I was hoping you could tell me when you're going out. Or when you feel like doing something."

She kissed his cheek. "I promise I'll try to stay put."

"I'll go get the doctor to rove the tube."

She was left alone for a few minutes. In those few minutes, Dom showed up. How did he enter the house without permission?

She backed away.

"Since you didn't come to me by force," he grinned. "I'll manipulate you. If you don't return home, I'll burn this clan like Duke did with the Dark Sun clan. You'll lose a second home." He gripped her chin. "Hurry home, we have a wedding to attend." He went to the window. "Oh, and keep the mutt on a leash." He left undetected.

She tugs at her hair.

'Don't do it,' Aire said. 'No, Claire! Don't shut me out!'

Claire stood and ripped the tube out. She felt dazed.
