Wake Me Up

Prologue

Alaina's POV:

"This is bad," her brother whispered in her ear.

"There is no going back Luke," she replied in a hushed tone.

They sat at the back of the room watching the lead scientist at the lab demonstrate his research for his fellow scientists. Alaina and Luke started working at the lab for work experience. Being incredibly intelligent twins definitely helped get them in the position they are in now, which is the lead scientist's assistants.

He used to be researching the human life span and how it could potentially be increased. Lately his motives had changed. One day he just walked into his lab and put all his other research away. He started a new project, reviving the deceased. Luke and Alaina had no choice but to assist him in his research.

The other day he had finally made a discovery. There was a way to make the formerly deceased muscles work again. He couldn't make their brains function or their hearts beat but for some reason he could make the muscles move with a lot of wires and his new computer program he named Revival.

Alaina leaned in to whisper in her brothers ear, "This is wrong. He can't possibly want to do this to humans. I even feel bad doing that to rats."

Luke replied, "We should never have helped him. We have to stop this."

"It's out of our control."

"We have to do something!"

"Be quieter Luke."

"I have a horrible feeling that this is going to blow up in our faces."

"We need to resign."

"Really?"

"You were the one who said we needed to do something."

"Shhh," a scientist from the row of chairs in front of us shushed us, "You're being to loud."

"Sorry," they both mumbled in unison. It was weird when they did that but she guessed it was just a twin thing.

The siblings sat quietly through the rest of the presentation. When it was finished they went to the front desk to resign. They could not help someone destroy humanity like that.

If only they knew then how much the research of one scientist could impact the world.
