Thanksgiving
Isabelle
It's wasn't that Isabelle loathes the holiday, because that's a pretty strong word. She also wouldn't go as far to say she hated it either. More so that she doesn't like it because she's the only one left that is single.
Magnus and Alec got married. It was a very posh wedding in some forgiven country. It ended in demon blood and Magnus being banned from the country. Weeks later they all laughed it off. Well Alec might still be a little mad, but he'll get over it eventually.
Jace and Clary had a true lovers wedding. You know the basic it's so romantic that you could die type of wedding. It was on the beach at sunset which made everything look like it's on fire. Isabelle guess that was a cool feature. She still blames Jace for getting her dress covered in seaweed later that night.
Now Isabelle is standing by the front door of the Institute greeting her mom's friends and their children, and then her mom's friends' siblings and then their parents. Isabelle was going to gore the next little kid who asked her who died. Isabelle knows that wearing white is the color of mourning, she wore it because she was mourning her dating life. After all at this rate Clary's nonexistent kids will be married before she gets a boyfriend.
She was just about to close the giant door when a teenager showed up at the steps. "Sorry, we don't accept strangers." Isabelle told him before he had the chance to speak. He stands there opening and closing his mouth. Almost as if he was trying to speak but couldn't find the right vocal range.
"Clary." He finally managed to get out. "I'm with Clary."
"I don't know if you know this but Clary is married you perv." Isabelle started, but he was shaking his head.
"No, no. I'm her best friend. I'm Simon." Isabelle finally made the connection. Simon had been at Clary's wedding. Isabelle spoke to him for about two whole minutes.
Isabelle's mouth made an o shape, "Sorry. Right. Umm. Come on in." Isabelle moved aside and opened the door wide enough to let him go. He gave her a nod as he passed her. Isabelle wanted to slam her head repeatedly against the door. She can't believe she didn't recognize him. Clary only talked about him twenty-four-seven.
Isabelle lead Simon to the great room, where they were dining. "You guys have a great Institute here. I'm hoping to be admitted to this one once I finish my training." Simon said looking around at the designs and pictures on the walls.
"Oh. You're being Ascended. Right. Clary mentioned that." Isabelle said. They stop at the entrance of the room.
"Yeah. Some of us have to do all those exams and quizzes to make up for the fact that we weren't born into this whole world." Simon stated. Isabelle bit her lip.
"Sorry. I didn't mean for what I said to offend you." Isabelle apologized to him. She doesn't know why she needed to, because she's never done that before. Isabelle hopes that Clary doesn't talk about her a lot to Simon. Judging by the look on Simon's face Clary does. Isabelle turned and walked into the dining room without another word to Simon. Passing Clary, Isabelle leaned down to say.
"Simon's here. Go help him out. It's like he's some lost puppy without his owner." Clary smacked Isabelle on the arm for her comment, but at least she made her point that she was not going to make Clary's match-making plan go smoothly.
She smirked to herself as she sat down next to Jace. He leaned over, "Really? A lost puppy? Come on. You could've done better that than."
"Shut it Jace." Isabelle breathed to him. He chuckled.
Isabelle's smile slipped off her face when Simon slipped into the seat next to her. Isabelle chose not to look at Clary and Jace, who was laughing harder now. Clary nudged him as Maryse stood up. She hit her knife against the glass of wine. Once the room was silent she cleared her throat.
