"Mom, I'm home!" I shouted as I walked into the door. I start to walk upstairs to go to my room when I feel a hand on my wrist.
"Mrs. Davis called the house today. She said something about a detention slip?" My mother stares at me questioningly.
"Mom I didn't do anything wrong! Mrs. Davis just hates me! I-"
"No, Harmony, this is the third time this month that you have almost gotten a detention slip! This is the last time I'm going to get you out of it! You do not want this on your record when you ask to join the World Peace Group!" My mother shouts at me.
I haven't had the heart to tell her that I'm not going to join. My passion is music. She does not know this. She wants to know why I get almost detentions, but I can never tell her. She just wouldn't understand.
"I know mom, I'll listen in class." I promise her, then I go upstairs to my room.
I shut the door and finally I can relax. My room is the one place I know I will never be bothered in. My parents never bother me, I don't have any friends so I don't get any calls to go anywhere, and the best part, my parents have sworn to never set foot into my room! It's perfect. It's the only freedom I have. In here, it's just me, myself, and I.
My room is full of band posters I had to sneak in with my parents' backs turned, it's full of lyrics on the backs of them. Lyrics I wrote. Lyrics you sing, like in a song, lyrics you say, like in a poem, any kind of lyrics you can think of. Like I said, to me, it's perfect.
I put down my stuff and grab my notebook and my headphones. I plug my headphones into my phone and let the world disappear as I write.
****
I wake up to the sound of something tapping at my window. I open my eyes to see my headphones had fallen out of my ears, the music still playing, my notebook open, and somebody I never thought I'd see again tapping on my window.
