"Wake up, wake up! Goodmorning New York its a cool crisp morning here in the city. Only supposed to reach 28 degrees today so everyone bundle up & stay warm ! "
I was awoken by my radio. I rolled out of bed, slid my feet into my slippers & headed to the bathroom.
I turned the shower on & it let it run for a while before I got in.
As I was washing my hair & singing, I heard a knock on the door. I could tell it was my little brother so I ignored it & kept washing.
BANG BANG BANG
he knocked harder.
"Hazel, mommy said get out." Caleb continued to beat on the door.
I rinsed off & got out. I slipped a soft white towel over my wet hair, my plush pink robe over my body & opened the door.
"Move loser." I pushed passed him. He stuck his tounge out & ran in the bathroom.
I shook my head & headed to my room.
Because the weather was so bad i decided to keep it simple. I put on a pair of True Religion jeans, a navy blue Abercrombie & Fitch hoodie & grey UGG boots.
"Honey breakfast is ready." My mom opened the door. "Oh you washed your hair?"
"Yes mother." I applied mascara to my already thick & long eyelashes.
"Its freezing outside, you'll get sick."
"Mommy I'm going from the loft to the car from the car to the school"
"No baby mommy has to be to work at 7:30 today, you have to catch the subway."
I groaned. "You should've been told me!"
"Hazel, its on the refridgerator."
"Mommy I never pay attention to that but okay, I'll be down in a moment!"
My mother left. I checked myself out in the mirror & headed to the kitchen.
I grabbed 3 pieces of turkey bacon, a muffin & a Voss water bottle.
"Guess who's here?" Caleb chewed & talked as I joined him at the kitchen table.
"Caleb, honey don't talk w. your mouth full. its rude & disgusting." My mom said as she wiped his face. "But who's here?"
"Mindless behavior." He grinned.
"Oh yeah, they're going to be on 106 & park today & they're doing a meet & greet."
"Oh, its that your favorite group? you should go! I'll leave work & take you."
"No mommy its okay. I wish I could go but I have practice until 7."
My mom looked sad. "Well okay. Caleb honey get your coat on. its time to go"
"But my mommy school doesn't start at the 7" Caleb got up.
"Honey I'm dropping you off at Henery's his mom going to take you guys to school." My mom zipped his coat up & they proceed to the front door.
"Oh Lovely?" My mom called me by my real name & I tensed up.
"Yes?"
"Here's lunch money." She handed me the money, kissed my cheek & walked out.
I grabbed my black pea coat out of the closet along w. my black, white & grey stripped hat, glove & scarf set.
I plugged my headphones into my iPhone 5 & headed out.
Usually I liked when my mom allowed me to walk to school because it gave me a lot of thinking time.
On this particular day I thought about my mother & what a mysterious woman she was. Although I was blessed. Everyday I wondered what I really was.
See mommy wasn't white but she sure as hell wasn't black. She had skin so light it was almost pale, weird green & grey eyes that were so round. She had sandy color hair that would probably be longer then mine if she didn't get it cut once a month. She was a beautiful woman & everytime I asked her "Mommy what are you?" She say "I'm the same thing as you, HUMAN!" & that'd end that conversation.
I didn't know why it was so important to me to know what mommy was but I really wanted to find out.
I was so into my thoughts, I didn't even notice when I ran into someone.
"I am so sorry!" I gasped.
"Its cool." The deep voice replied as he bent down to pick up my bag. "I should've been paying attention." He handed me my bag, smiled & continued jogging.
A few minutes into my walk I realized who it was. ?
