"So your home economics teacher told us that you've been skipping her class." Melrose said.
Ryann looked at her nonchalantly. "I don't need that class." "That's not the point baby girl where you been?" Rome asked. "Not in class daddy I just been in the lunch room and stuff." "Ryann baby I know you got senioritis but you've got to go to class because skipping leads to disciplinary action by the school." Melrose said.Ryann side eyed her. " Ryann I know you're about to be a legal adult and graduate but you still have to follow schools rules. Do you understand baby?" Rome said.
Ryann sighed and nodded her head. Rome was always nervous and protective of Ryanm. He never wanted her to be defenseless in this cold world. He feared for his daughter in a world where black women are not valued.
"You're always on my case way harder than RJ or Tommy."
"Because they're not giving me any reasons to be on their case."
Ryann didn't wanna throw her brother under the bus but she remembers so many instances where RJ got away with murder.
"You've always been extra when it came to me why dad?" Ryann asked irritated.
Rome looked at his daughter who started looking just like her mother and shook his head. He didn't want her to grow up and experience pain. He wanted her to stay the carefree flower child he and Blaze raised.
Rome kissed her forehead. "Love you Ry, we'll get to it later." Love you too daddy." Ryann said thinking about all those times she skipped with JaRon.
"Actually Ryann I wanted to talk to you about more then that." "Yeah." "I noticed a change in your attitude towards me is everything ok?" "Yeah." "Is there anything you want to talk about? You know it's strictly confidential between us." "Nah...I got somebody else who I talk too I'm good. May I leave?" Ryann asked wanting to leave the family room. "Yeah sure."
Ryann didn't want any interpersonal moments with Melrose at all. She wanted to distance Melrose from the mother role. If she couldn't talk to her beloved real mother, which she couldn't, then she wouldn't talk at all.
"Everything ok?" Lauryn asked as Ryann walked into the bedroom. "Yeah." Ryann said rolling her eyes. Rio and RJ came up the steps.
"Yall not ready yet?" RJ asked them.
"I forgot to tell you we not going tonight." Ryann said.
"Y'all missing out this masquerade bouta slap harder than Cierra party."
"They have em all the time we gone go to the next one."
"Aight sis. When me and Rio come back we gone all kick it again." RJ said with the humblest look on his face and Lauryn noticed.
"Bet it up ." Ryann said.
RJ went outside to put the trash cans on the curb and Rio sat inside.
"The other night was so much fun man. Lauryn you got some good vibes to you." Rio said.
Lauryn appreciated the comment and felt the same way.
"I feel the same about you You so chill what's your secret?"
"I'm young and I don't like drama. Me and RJ go to parties but chilling around close people like y'all is better then any party."
