The window wound down and out appeared a friendly face.
"Need a lift?" Teresa called out to Bella and Margo. Margo could never have been more relieved. Bella was extremely shocked.
Bella was the first to come back from the shock attack. "Teresa? I thought you would never help a fugitive as that is basically what I now am?"
"Well, I talked to someone about it," Teresa smiled.
"Oh my gosh! You can forget that five bucks you owe me Resa, I can't believe you did this for us!" Margo cried.
Teresa just smiled. They stood there for about a minute until Teresa reminded them, "Hey are you going to get in the car before the police find out what you've done?"
"Oh, right," Bella and Margo said simultaneously. They looked at each other and laughed. They both got in the car. Bella in the front and Margo in the back. Surprisingly, Margo fell asleep, leaving Bella and Teresa to themselves.
"What made you change your mind?" Bella asked.
"I don't know. Maybe I did it for Margo, maybe I did it for myself, maybe I did it for you," Teresa replied as she stared out the front window, "All I know is that I did it and I am now as against the law as you are right now."
Bella looked at Teresa. Bella knew that if Margo trusted her, then she should as well but there was something missing about this girl. Or maybe she had something extra. What ever it was, Bella didn't know. Yet.
"You know I didn't have to do this, I had a choice. I could've stayed home, looked after my medically ill brother, my nine year old brother and my six year old brother. I could be a normal citizen right now. But I'm not. I never, ever thought I would break the law, risk pain for my family and risk being captured and thrown in jail. I guess I did it cause of that," Teresa explained with a sigh.
"Cause of what?" Bella turned and looked at the side of Teresa's face. If Teresa had not been driving, she would have looked straight into her eyes.
"Cause of the fact that is was something I couldn't see myself doing," Teresa answered.
Bella thought for a moment. She had never thought she would hear anyone say that. Ever. But it had happened and so had the fact that Teresa had helped her when she could have not and been a free person. No one had ever done that for Bella before, except Margo, but Margo was that kind of person; she always helped people no matter how bad.
"I don't say this very often, but, thank you," and for once, Bella actually meant it.
Teresa laughed, "I was going to say no problem, but that wouldn't really be true would it? So you're welcome."
Bella smiled. One thing was that Teresa knew how to make a joke out of tough situations. "Where are we going?"
"Well, I kinda told my parents that I was picking up Margo and another friend to stay the night. I called Margo's parents on the way to the bank, they said it was fine. I would've called your parents as well but-" Teresa started to explain but Bella cut her off.
"My parents don't care, I mean, one of them is in L.A. with his girlfriend and mum, well, I often am going and spending nights at other places,"
"Well, that's fine then. We'll all have to share my room as there are no spare rooms, unless you wanna sleep in the garage," Teresa looked slightly over at Bella as she said this.
"I don't mind, what ever is easier for you," Bella shrugged.
"We'll all sleep in the garage then. There's enough space and it's not that bad," Teresa decided, "that way we'll be able to talk without interruptions."
They turned a few bends before either of them spoke again. When one of them did, it was Bella.
"When did you learn to drive? I thought you were only fifteen," Bella asked.
"Well, my grandparents own this farm and they taught me how to drive around it. Except they taught me how to drive a manual. My parents showed me how to drive a auto," Teresa explained, "Plus, if I follow all the road rules, don't go over the limit and just act casual, I can get away with it, as in, I don't get pulled over to check my license. I don't drive that often anyway, I normally catch the bus," Teresa explained as she turned one last left. "We're almost home now anyway."
Bella nodded. Why is Teresa doing all this for me? Is she expecting something from me? Bella didn't know, but she would find out somehow.
As soon as they entered the drive way, a gunshot fired.
