Parks, lost, and trouble

Nathan's pov

Lucy and I decide that we are gonna take lunch to the park today. I finish packing lunch, then call "Chiquita, eres lista ?" She comes down the stairs, and replies " vamos, tio Nathan!" I grab our stuff, then Chiquita and I head for the park. Lucy and I race there, being the awesome uncle that I am I let Lucy win.

She exclaims "caramba ! Yo ganada!"

I reply " muy buena, Chiquita !"

We plop down and have lunch under the small copse of live oak trees in the park. A few minutes later, and we hit the slides. I know I'm too big, but cut me a break, would ya ? Lucy and I start a game of freeze tag, and a bunch of kids, and the odd parent or two, join us. We play for about thirty minutes, then I've had it. I go grab a seat on an unoccupied bench, to watch. A little later, Lucy and a little girl I don't know come running up.

Lucy says excitedly " Ella Es mi nueva Amiga."

I ask "como se Llama, Ella ?" Lucy's friend apparently speaks Spanish. It stuns me. She could be Lucy's twin.

She responds "me llamo, Vivienne. Como se llama ?"

I reply "me llamo Nathan. Como Esta?"

She answers "asi asi y tu ?"

I tell her "muy bueno, gracias."

After that, Lucy and vivienne go run off to rejoin the freeze tag game. What shocks me is how long they manage to stay in the game. A couple hours later, I figure that we ought to be heading home. It's getting hot, and I'm tired.

I call "Chiquita, vamos !" Lucy comes running up.

She dares me "catch me if you can !"

Lucy takes off running, she beats me to the house. Jay comes out and says

"Skye, did you have fun ?" The little girl looks so very confused.

She says "my name isn't Skye. It's vivienne." Jay looks closely at her, he can tell that it isn't Lucy. I'm dead. Jay hooks a thumb toward the house, he points at me. My brother is silently telling me to go to his room. Yipes. I do as he said and go to his room. I know, shocker, right ?

Jay's pov

Only Nathan would leave Skye at a park, and not notice. I'm sad that he didn't notice. He should've. I walk vivienne back to the park. When we get there, there's a game of freeze tag going on. Vivienne goes and joins it, as I try to track down my daughter. Viv and luc come running up. Lucy says "daddy, where's uncle Nathan ? He left." I pick Lucy up.

I explain "Nathan had to leave, so I came to get you, Skye."

She answers "ok, daddy." I put Lucy on my hip, then we leave. Lucy and I enter the house.

I tell her "skye, go ask Uncle Tom to take you outside to play. I have to go deal with Nathan." Lucy nods, and runs off to find Tom. I walk away, up the stairs.

Nathan's pov

I'm dead. Those are famous last words. I can hear footsteps, so I am really nervous.

Jay's pov

I walk in the bedroom, where Nathan is waiting. He is pacing and biting his fingernails. I decide to be straight with him.

I inform him "Nathan, you're gonna get it, so you might as well bend."

He does as I suggest. I lay down twelve then start to lecture him.

I lecture "Nathan Ryan Sykes. What on God's green earth were you thinking ? You left Lucy in the park. I can't believe you. I thought you had some common sense."

He answers "I didn't mean to. You saw vivienne, she and Lucy could be twins. I'm sorry ! I do have common sense, I just made a mistake."

I respond "I understand that you made a mistake, but you're still gonna be punished for it. I don't want you to EVER make that mistake again. That's why you're being dealt." Nathan is sobbing too hard to give me a response. That makes me feel really guilty. I figure that getting the last twenty on his thighs should be enough to make this lesson into a learning experience. I finish, then pull Nathan into a much needed hug. We cuddle for about thirty minutes before his tears subside.
