Chapter 16

Owen's POV

   20 minutes later...

    There is a knock on my door. I jump up, open it, and see that it's Callie. Immediately, I pull her in for a hug. "I appreciate you coming Callie, though you didn't have to." "Of course I did. You're one of my best friends so I'm going to be there for you when you fall. I'm here anytime you need me. I'd drop anything for you. Now talk to me. What happened between you and Amelia?"

    I take a shaky breath. "I caught Amelia getting friendly with Riggs who she knows I hate with a burning passion. Riggs is nothing but trouble. The only people who actually trust me on that are you and Meredith. Everyone else looks at me like I have three heads. He caused my family misery for so many years. He doesn't deserve to be treated with respect."

    Callie looks at me with sympathy. "Owen, I know Amelia can be stubborn sometimes, but her talking to Riggs doesn't mean that she's going to leave you. I think that you just have to let her learn the hard way. Once she does, she'll come running into your arms after she sees the monster that he is. You can't control Amelia, but you can control him trying to hurt her. Until the possibility of a situation relating to a lack of safety to Amelia comes about, just step aside and let it be." 

   "You're right Callie, though I don't want to admit it. Sometimes it amazes me just how wise you can be." She laughs. "I know right. I could be like the female Wizard of Oz. Now let's get our minds off this drama for a little while. What do you say to drink?" I clap my hands together. "I say let's do it." Callie pours me a glass of Scotch and herself a Martini. We clank our glasses and drown out the weight of life's problems.
