5: In a city of fools, I was careful and cool

Dan took Phil to the nurse after Phil had calmed down to get him checked out and to make sure he was okay.

Phil clung to Dan like he was Phil's lifeline, because Phil was scared, and he was hurting, and Dan seemed to make everything a bit easier for him mentally, as well as physically, because Phil couldn't stay up on his own too well, and Dan was keeping him upright, and Phil was grateful for that, and that Dan was there for him, because Phil had no one else his age, and perhaps he thought that could be okay until now, because he needed Dan, he really did, and well, he had him, at least just for the moment.

Dan just wasn't sure how long he could keep his feelings bottled up inside of him, waiting to be perhaps released. The feelings belonged to a certain boy, Dan's only sunshine, Phil Lester, the boy that could brighten a room with his smile that he barely ever showed, because Dan knew Phil was broken in some kind of way, he just wasn't sure how.

And Dan would wait a lifetime for Phil Lester, because he was truly one-of-a-kind, and Dan liked that about him, because Dan himself was just an ordinary dude with mild depression he was forced to go to therapy for, that wasn't really all that special, or so he saw himself.

But Phil, Phil was different.

And Dan was trying his best to keep his feelings inside, because he didn't know Phil that well yet, and perhaps it was a good thing he was trying so hard to wait for someone that he might never have, and not trying to jump right into things and ruin what was a perfectly good friendship, because Dan didn't want to lose Phil, oh no, but sometimes he wished he never saw the sunshine, his sunshine, because if he hadn't met Phil, he wouldn't have been falling so hard, and so quickly at the same time for a boy that Dan thought probably could never love him, because like, what if Phil wasn't gay? Dan wasn't sure if Phil was or not, but he knew that he himself was, obviously.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have been thinking about how much he loved Phil so much already, but about girls or something. Whatever straight guys think about.

But Dan wasn't a straight guy, as you already know.

Dan was far from that, as he gazed over to the sunshine walking- no, limping beside him, and just wanting to lean in and kiss Phil's lips. Just one kiss from Phil was all he really needed to be happy for a long while, really.

Dan saw how much pain Phil seemed to be in, so he decided to help him out just a bit more. He stopped in his tracks, put an arm under Phil and lifted him off his feet, carrying him bridal style. Phil blushed as he put his arms around Dan's neck and mumbled a soft 'thank you'.

Dan blushed and nodded, carrying Phil all the way to the nurse's office. He opened the door and carried Phil inside.

"My god, what happened to you two?" The nurse, Jackie asked frantically as she rushed over to Dan and Phil.

"Some losers beat me and Philly up," I stated as I set Phil down. "I'm okay, just make sure he is, please."

"Will do," Jackie replied.
